A few days ago, my MX7515 was still really quiet, I can only hear the fan when I choose the Max Power setting. Right now, my fan is always loud, it is quiet when I turn it on after a few hours, but a few minutes later, the fan will make low vaccum sounds. It doesn't matter if I choose the Laptop/portable setting or the Max Power setting, the fan still makes the same noise, will it go back to normal after awhile?

nope....it's not broke....i have the same modal(good choice by the way...the amd athlon 64 4000+ rocks) and it changes speed and goes on and off according to your temp and activity....have you played any good games on yours??? the fastest moble amd processer and the ati x600 video card makes my 64 bit desktop pc jelous....i beleave these would smoke the intel corduo's everyone seems to be getting....i'll shut up cause i'm sure you didn't ask for all this extra jabber....so, anyway don't worry your fan is working as intended....PEACE

I wouldn't say that your fan is "broken," as it still works as it sounds from your description. My laptop, which is an older model of yours, is pretty quiet. I would turn the computer off, and thoroughly take a can of air to all of the vents.

You should blow all the lint out on a regular basis, like once a month. It keeps them running smoothe and quite.
-
I blew all the vents using a can of compressed gas, while the fan is not as loud as before, it's still running a lot faster than usual and thus the loud noise. Is there any software that can tweak the fan to run at a lower speed?
Also, I got a product service plan with this laptop, but I don't want to send it there and wait for them to fix it. I want to open up my laptop and clean the fan manually, is it possible to do that without them knowing losing my warranty? Is there also a guide out there on step by step how to open up the MX7515? -
There is (I am unsure of it's compatability with your machine, as it doesn't recodnize any fans in mine), but I honestly wouldn't do that. My best advice is to learn to deal with it, or exchange it for a quieter one. Google SpeedFan. I would hook up a link, but I am on my stomach and feeling rather lazy. No chairs around me!
And no, sadly there is no way to open your laptop under warranty. Take it to Geek Squad and tell them to clean it. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the service plan includes cleanings. -
I got the product service plan with futureshop, will they send my laptop to gateway to clean it or will they do it by themselves?
-
I have no idea. I would imagine that they clean it at the store, but then again, BestBuy is messed up (FS is BestBuy, so I imagine same results)
so you never know.
-
your service plan certainly does cover cleanings. just bring it in and they will spray it all out... but if you want the insides cleaned just tell them you think it is clogged or something inside and they will have to send it off but Gateway will open it up and clean it.
-
how long does it take to send it to Gateway? anyone with experience of actually getting the repair done in the store?
-
I just took my laptop in and they have to send it to gateway, they said it should take a week and a half to get it back, hope that gives you a little help on the time frame.
-
Through BestBuy for me, about a week. I guess it would depend on where you live.
-
well i was just giving worse case there when i took it in they said it would be at least a week but could take up to a week and a half.
Did I break my fan?
