Did you buy a warranty with your laptop?
I am trying to decide if I should buy a warranty and I have 6 days left to do so.
Does upgrading break the warranty?

I chose not to buy the warranty because I baby my laptops and plan on replacing it in a year or so. If you are accident prone or plan on keeping the laptop for more than 1.5yrs I would recommend the warranty if it doesn't cost too much.
As far as upgrading voiding the warranty I'm not 100% sure but from what I've read around here replacing the CPU will void your warranty (keep your original cpu and switch back before you send for repair to avoid voiding or so I read). Replacing ram or hdd doesn't void it and replacing the screen is a gray area, not sure either way about it. -
I would get at least a total of two year warranty.

i didn't have the money for it, plus i am really careful with it so i should be fine.i also read before that like 75% of extended warranties are never used, maybe it was less.

Absolutely not, put it on a visa credit card and register it with visa. You will get two extra years after the manufacturers warranty expires. Even if you don't want it on a credit card, the just pay it off the first month you charge it and you will pay no finance charges.

I also read that 80% of warranties are never used as well. -

I got a 2 year warranty because I play games on it a lot and the warranty covers all internal parts, and you will need a new battery within 1 year and they are very expensive so the warranty basically pays itself right there.
-
or you could buy a battery from ebay or a discount site.but not crappy nock offs, that would just be stupid to do.

I am not sure how you figured up 3 years put I did see where it doubles the 1 year warranty which would make it 2 years which is plenty. Apreciate that kind sir! The link you gave makes it seem you need a signature card for this but I have called my credit card company and it seems I have this option as well.

You only get the 2 extra years warranty if you have certain credit cards (Gold or Platinum, I think). I only had to use the warranty once but they did honor it.
-
I never buy the warranty from Best Buy or Circuit city.

When purchasing a laptop, which is a pretty big investment, I always get some form of extended warranty. Usually just the most basic 2 year option because lets face it.... stuff breaks, especially on a gaming laptop that gets hot. Not to mention that the warranty I got with my new laptop covers a battery replacement which makes the cost of the warranty worth every penny to me.

Did you buy a warranty with your 6831/6860 FX?
