I've had a few (3 or 4) gateway 7805u's and ALL of them have had 9XXX 3dmark06 scores. Now I have a new 7805 with the same drivers that I've had in the others and I get 8XXX in 3dmark06. (all of which was NOT oc'd).

I don't get it.... all of my past notebooks had good scores but this new one sucks.

Check temperatures, hotter cpu/gpu means auto-downclock of card, lowering performance to keep stable temperature.
Also make sure you are in PERFORMANCE battery mode.

Yeah I just checked the temps and my 9k score was running 72c max after 5 runs and my 8k score is running 64c after 1 run.
And it wasn't in performance mode, but "balanced".

Meaning the 9k score was balanced mode also?
if the cpu + gpu dont get enough juice, u will get lower scores also.

Yeah, both were in balanced. Do you think it could be the outlet I'm using? I'll go try a different one.

this is seriously bothersome since I got my past scores up to 9690 with the GPU oc'd. Now I doubt I can pull that with the same oc.

wow.. mine must be broken then.
i had 2 7805u(i took first one cuz of backlight problem) and both of them
were getting 8.7k 3dmark 06 score out of box with no OC.
9xxx seems unreasonably high score for out of box for p-7805u to me.

Well that's what I've been getting. I even have screenshots.
But yeah, this 7805u has been getting 8.7k scores.

Same here, 8xxx out of the box. Something of the 8700 order. With overclock in the 9xxx order. Personally I would have kept the systems if they were in the 9xxx order out of the box............ :)

Yeah but some were giving me problems, blue screens, artifacts, etc.

I get the same FPS's in games though which is weird.

Maybe that then is why! If the Video memory were running in an unsafe higher speed memory mode it may give the higher benchmark but cause errors such as artifacts and possible BSOD's............

Yeah, but they were all stock clocked. I only oc'd one and that brought me up to 9690.
Well two were 1440x900 screen while the other two (including my current one) are the 1920x1200 resolution screens. I have tried turning off aero and dropping the resolution to 1440x900 on the desktop too; that didn't help at all.

I was running 3dmark06 with the default settings on all of the notebooks.

could be at stock clock but if say the video ram was at the wrong Cas etc that could be the errata issue...........
