You may prefer to use the program called Powermizer Manager. Instead of turning powermizer off or on, you can set which profile to set your graphics card to and you don't need to do a reboot to make changes!

Yeah it works with throttle stop. It works by changing the registry like the powermizer switch except there are more options and it has a mode that allows the registry changes to take effect without a reboot. It warns you that for some computers it will do something bad but it works without problems for me. It'll just crash your game if you have one open when you do it.

Cool, since 9c.23.00 I leave it on so no real need here. With it off the fan will kick it on occasion, with it on and on the NC2000 it only comes on with games............

I use the powermizer manager to lock my gpu in the lowest power state while on battery because I found that the internet causes the gpu to throttle to full all the time, draining the battery.

Yepper, I almost never use battery so I am good there. For me this is a DTR but I will move it from NJ to PA when I make the trip.

I am thinking of building a true desktop as I would like an IPS 30" 2560x1600 monitor for picture editing. Since we do not have Dual link nor HDMI 1.4 I am limited to 1920x1200 for this laptop.

I would SLI 2 x GTX 580's, i7-2600K, P67 Mainboard with other system specs to properly match power draw etc.

My other option is a 24" 1920x1200 IPS over HDMI 1.3 to DVI but then only 24 Bit not 30 Bit color. This would over all be way much cheaper, like $500-$600 compared to about $4,000.
