Recently installed a G.Skill Falcon 128GB SSD into p7805u and reinstalled Vista 64bit.

For some weird reason, the OS has now decided to allocate an additional 1GB of system memory to my 1GB VRAM 9800m GTS. I'm not particularly fussed but I (preferentially) would like to recover that 1GB of system memory back. Essentially, i'm working off 3GB available RAM as opposed to the installed 4GB RAM.

Couldn't find the option to disable shared system memory in the Gateway bios.

any suggestions please. Thanks in advance.

Alot like a pagefile that RAM is not actually "used" until the videocard needs it.

Assuming you arent gaming while trying to render 3d images and convert a DVD all at the same time you should be fine. The system wont actually use that RAM until the videocard demands it (and by the by all systems do that, i currently have 1712MB of video memory even though i only have a 512mb card)

As to your question, there is no way to disable it in the BIOS. Gateway doesnt want us playing around in our system too much so have locked off practically all of the BIOS settings. I think there might be a place in nTools to change it, but as i said i wouldnt recommend it.

That memory isn't reserved and therefore doesn't affect the usable physical system memory. If it was reserved you would have something like 4GB installed and 3GB available.
