For some reason.. when I turn my laptop on.. It goes to the Gateway Screen.. and then there's about a 20 second period of just a plain black screen.. and then it goes to the blinking underscore at the top left.. which leads to the loading bar with Microsoft Corporation..

I was wondering if your P-7811FX did the same thing?

Do you have anything plugged into the usb port? Mine did that a few times and it was when I either had an sd card or usb stick inserted during start up. Inserting it one the login screen comes up it was fine but yes I've had the issue but just worked around it.

Well the only thing I have plugged into it is my Mouse. =X It does it every time I start it up and I don't see how a mouse plugged in could delay it that bad.

    Surly, it's not defective.

Type msconfig in RUN and deselect all start programs, it may help you.

go into bios and make sure your hard drive is set to boot first.

what is probably going on is your CD drive is set first and then the CD tries to boot but fails

Possible.. I thought I heard the DVD drive attempting to spin on startup.

EDIT: If that's not it, have any other idea?

Default bios is set to DVD first. I changed it.. but I still get the blackscreen delay. I think it's pretty normal. They have just hidden the normal text stuff that usually goes there.

I haven't noticed any boot issues. In fact, I turned on my computer at the same time I turned on my laptop and they both boot at the same speed

I had 2 external usb drives connected and the bios would still seek them for a boot record at start up even after I deleted them from the bios... it's annoying...

hopefuly a bios update will fix it

the delay is due to the fact the bios searches DVD first. there will always be a bit of black no need to worry.

Just letting you know I changed the boot settings for HD 1 then CD 2.. and it still did it.. it's about a 25 second period of just a black screen.. I can record it if needed.. unless it's not a potential problem.
