Whenever I'm on Battery, my GPU is downclocked significantly. Starting a 3D application doesn't set the clocks back to regular as it does while running off AC. I've tried using powermizer switch to turn this off, but while it turns off powermizer for AC, it does nothing for when I'm mobile.

This is pretty annoying. Any suggestions?

I have heard about this problem before. From what I hear theres no way to change it. If you want to do CPU intesive tasks the laptop is going to have to be plugged in. I heard this is something to do with overheating though im not sure how that would work. Hopefully Im wrong though.

I'm sure you mean "GPU"... and yeah i think that may be the case.

Although i may have read that it's the LV2G drivers that do it b/c they are modified desktop drivers... not sure so don't quote me but maybe if you use the gateway drivers it wouldn't happen???

I thought the bios setting could change that.

You can always test the gateway and then go back if it doesn't make a difference but really you can't get a whole lot accomplished in a game with the amount of time you burn through battery so it is not even an issue to me...

That may be true, but I'd still like to be ABLE to.
It is annoying I play a game whenever I want to.

After you unplug, try left clicking the battery power icon in the taskbar and set it to high performance

input from the outside.. johnksss brought this up a while back. He had the 6860FX and asked a few of us to run with and without external power.. All of ours downclocked. That was an issue he always had with the 6860FX series, and evidentally is something hard-coded into the bios. From what I understand, there is no circumventing it via drivers. But, that could always be proven wrong. However, the powermizer is not the issue..and vista power management neither, nor XP. It's just what happens. :(

i allways thought our gpu's just required more power than the battery can supply.
