Hello all,
First post here after lurking in the shadows for a while and reading about but i have stumbled across a problem.
I finally managed to flash my bios this morning (firstly to 0.23 and then to 0.25, then back to 0.23) Though a DOS bootable USB stick and running the Flash.BAT file. I now realise that i want to go back to 0.17 as 0.23 runs the system too hot however i am unable to do so, regardless of the method i try.
I have tried flashing it in windows using the IMV-3564 file and get the DWM error every time (Even tried uninstalling GFX drivers and still same issue) and as i cannot find a .BAT file in the 0.17 folder i am unable to boot it from DOS like the other drivers.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Kind regards,
Demon

you need to have M$ certified whql drivers installed...................

Hi Tanware,
Thank you very much for your input, are you referring to the Graphics card drivers or everything? For the moment im running the DOCX 195.62 drivers which, as you say are not certified.
Thank you kindly,
Demon -
Just a quick update - I have installed the latest Nvidia WHQL certified drivers and still get the same WDM error when i try to run the windows based Bios update... Is there any way of flashing the 9C.17 drivers through DOS?
Cheers all,

Hey Tanware,
Just tried the MS drivers as well as installation in Safe mode, both to no avail. I really do not understand how some people seem to be able to get the bios flash application to run in windows and others cant... Just seems odd.
Any other suggestions greatly appreciated,
Demon -
I used to get the error constantly. Changed the graphics driver and it finally went, so it is the driver. also be sure everything in msconfig is enabled too............
-
Hi Tanware,
Cheers for the reply yet again bud.
Sorry to be asking but what is Msconfig and where is it accessed?
I take it by the fact you have gone through the windows installation route that you are unaware of any DOS installation method for 0.17?
All the best bud,
Demon -
Supposedly the bios files include the .rom but I haven't tried it myself. as far as msconfig go to the "search programs and files" and type "MSCONFIG". remember to run it as admin...............
-
Hey bud,
The files included in every version of the 0.17 bios i have seen include 4 files:
IMV-3564.EXE
flash64.sys
Settings.ini
WFlash.DAT
I cant see a .rom file (Unless i am being a fool... Which is highly likely)
Also, i have accessed MSconfig now and everything in the "Startup" and "Services" tabs are enabled. Still no joy.
I will have a go at fiddling with the graphics drivers some more and see what happens.
Cheers once again bud,
Demon -
I looked myself however the one out there with the EIST hack has a .WPH file......................
-
Hi Tanware,
Thank you for going through the trouble sir, greatly appreciated.
I will give it a go tomorrow morning and see if i can use that version of the Bios and see if it makes any difference.
Kind regards,
Demon -
Hi Tanware,
I just found the EIST hacked version of 0.17 which does in fact include a batch file... Im hesitant to try it as i do not understand what the EIST hack is or what it does to the system... (Im not at that level of computer literacy im afraid bud).
If you could shine a light on that and what its imapact would be i will give it a go. (Im currently reading through the thread where i found the bios to see if i can figure it out).
All the best,
Demon -
EIST is enhanced speed step, the turbo of just one core on the original P8xxx cores. Not having it alows you to run Throttle stop and turbo both cores if you wish. Disabling it should have no real effects stock so it is fine.

Thanks so much for the help bud, I know i say it allot but i really do appreciate the help.
Im toying with the idea of Overclocking the stock CPU at the moment but i have allot more reading to do before i attempt such a feat...
In the meantime though would you say there is no affects (Adverse or positive) of flashing the Modified Bios?
kind regards,
Demon -
no adverse effects to using the hacked over the stock bios............
-
Hi Tanware,
Spot on buddy thank you for the help, Im having a look at the Throttlestop stuff now and it seems very interesting... I had no idea there is so much you can do with the stock system... So much performance just waiting to be plucked...
Thanks again bud, i will keep you posted.
All the best,
Demon -
TANWare - You sir are a true Gentleman! Thank you so much, i finally managed to reflash 0.17 using Kravis's modified Bios and the system is back to its former cool glory! And whats more, i can even run throttlestop now
Top marks bud, +Rep and my eternal gratitude!
For anyone who is in the same position as myself, You can reflash 0.17 by using Kravis's Modified Bios through a DOS bootable storage device - I hope this helps people in the future resolve their problems faster than i.
Take care all,
Demon -
I am in desperate need of the .17 BIOS. I recently reverted from .23 to .20 but the temps are still way too high and I'm getting intermittent freezes at "Windows Starting" screen in Win7. Could you please post a link to the .17 either basic or modded. I can't seem to get any help from the Gateway Support.... sigh!
Thanks in advance! -

I do have one other query. Seeing as there isn't a text file of any kind with this package of BIOS', is there a way to find out what the version number is of the i.e., IMV-021W - IMV-035W BIOS'? There are two (32 & 64bit versions) listed as 9C.20.00_x64, etc so these I understand. If there's a 9c.17.xxx in the bunch I don't know which it is.... Sorry for my ignorance.
Thanks in advance.
Via trial and error, I'm finding my way through these bios versions. The IMV-021W is a winflash update and it is the 9c.05 shipped version and the IMV-026W is the 9c.08, etc, etc so I'm good for now! -
I think it is IMV-35 as that is the proper time frame............

I have a project that I would like to flash back to the original shipped version of the bios and try to install my first original backup to hopefully recover the restore partition that actually appears in the backup archive. Might be a waste of time, but I'd like to try this experiment.
I will attempt winflash or whatever version those bios' are in if I can confirm that first one in the list is the original.
Sorry for being so dense here. -
the restore partition of the disk has nothing to do with bios revision as far as I know...................
