Firstly, I can't seem to install the HD Audio Modem driver, I downloaded the driver from the gateway site, install it , but it still won't recognize in the Device Manager.

If someone could email me the driver, that would be great, or point me in the right direction.

Secondly, I have the "Safely remove Hardware" icon in the taskbar, that shouldn't be there which signals something isn't installed correctly, possibly the harddrive, I don't know.

The disk I made before I wiped the system is corrputed for some reason, so I don't have the drivers that came with it, only the ones from the website. I've installed Vista 32 twice before on this laptop with no driver problems.

If someone can tell me what I need, maybe a chipset driver that will straighten out this mess I'm having, thanks.

As for the HD audio device, it's listed as "Modem Device in High Definition Audio Bus"

Make sure you go ahead and do all your Windows updates. There is a Microsoft patch that involved problems with HD audio. Mine installed fine once I completed all the available updates.

yeah, the modem driver doesn't work, not sure why. It runs through the installation but in the device manager it's still there under unknown devices. I can't figure this out behind the fact that I'm running Vista 64. It installed fine when I had Vista 32 on this laptop.

The audio drivers are installed fine.

And the idt link doesn't work.... :(

Did you uninstall that driver in device manager? Also pick the option to delete the software too. then reboot, and try to reinstall.

yeah, I've tried doing everything at this point. Uninstalled it from the device manager, uninstalled the actual software driver, rebooted, even rebooted in the F8 mode that disables driver cert, redownloaded it several times, still no luck.

This is driving me absolutely nuts...the link you posted earlier, the one that doesn't work, what does that have to do with? I wonder if the modem audio bus is linked to something else that needs to be disabled before being installed. It's got to be something like that....

my audio works fine, it's just the:

"Modem Device in High Definition Audio Bus"

in the control panel. hmm....I've seen other people around the net with the same problem, but no solution. It's got to be something obvious....

found it Flynnaz, found a 3 week old thread where someone hosted the file that came with the laptop. The driver posted on the official site isn't the 64 bit driver, only the 32.

finally., i was going nuts there...
