Hey Guys Slipped on a patch of black ice while carrying my p-6811fx laptop.

It was in the case which has padding and it seems to work fine.
The only thing I noticed was when I close the lid it makes a small tick noise :(

    How durable are these laptops?
It was off of course during the fall.
    Should I worry?

If I sell it off how much could I get for it? about $750 ish.

I really didn't want to get rid of it just yet. Wanted to wait until laptops support 8gb of ram.

    But we'll see.
It seems fine and these laptops seem pretty sturdy and durable.
ANyone else have a dropping incident?

One time I was wearing headphones when someone knocked on my door, I got up really quickly and the line in from the headphones pulled my 6860 out of my wall locker and it almost fell, I am still a little pissed because I slightly damaged my headphone jack and now it holds 3.5 mm jacks very loosely( Its fine in a stationary environment which is pretty much the only place I use my 6860) But these laptops are quite durable, I would inspect it thoroughly for cracks.

Not likely you can sell for $750 being there's damage done to the laptop, maybe not visible, but unless you are still on a warranty and sent back to receive a new laptop then you could sell it refurbished for $750 otherwise you might want to let people know it was dropped - although no visible damage some people would want to know this information in case something happens later, or you'd end up in court pretty quick.

Perfect example I had a college kid buy one of my laptops and a week later try to return it to me, I asked him why there wasn't any problems he just didn't want it - so I took it back and figured I could re-sell without a problem. His girlfriend luckily called me and informed me he dropped it and the wireless didn't work anymore that he hoped to return it since it wasn't on warranty. I ended up taking him to court and winning the cost back and returned the laptop to him.

Granted this laptop had damage he ill informed me of, however if you don't explain same issue you dropped it then people might get irritated to find out later.

Most laptops now based on the montevina platform do support 8gb of ram. As for getting 750$ for your laptop as others said you can get a 7811 refurb for that price. I wouldn't expect to get more than 600-650$ for your laptop. You might get more out of it if you where to trade someone though.

    Lol yes it works.

Its a P-6860Fx not 6811 lol I had just came home after a long drive after the super bowl and it was like 1am when I posted that.
So I was all freaked out and rushing.

As for $750 It was just a number that popped in my head. Which actually turns out to not be far off.

There are no cracks and everything works. What happened was while in the case it the front part of the laptop was in the bottom of the case. It happened to fast I'm guessing the bottom corner of the case hit the ground first and pushed the screen back. Which I guess it cant push that far because the lid was closed and locked. So my guess is the damage is tiny tiny minimal. Theres a very low tick noise when you close coming from the back hinge on the side I think hit.

Other then that the laptop is fine..... was in mint condition for the year I had it. Now its got a little battle scar.

Yesterday i was just freaking out.
Anyways Does anyone know where I can get directions on unhinging the monitor. I never have done this before on a laptop my guess is its involved and not worth the time.

But it never hurts to ask and see the procedure.
Who knows the tick noise could just be something slid outta place and needs to be popped back in.
Its really minimal, But I like my stuff in Mint condition thats why it bothers me.
