hey there, I'm havin some issues with my dvd writer o 6860 as it starts to work really strange. For past few days once in a while when I burn something or I read a cd it makes the strangest noise. It will start burnin and for first few minutes it will stay at 3% burn spinnin up really fast and the slowin down all within 10sec over and over again after few minutes of that it starts working normally and finishes burnin dvd. I just wanna change the drive and have peace with it. Could u recommend really good replacement drive ? no blu-ray needed.

I'm actually going to keep this drive until I decide to upgrade to blu-ray if at all. If I were you I'd probably check out newegg (and other sites) and start by reading the reviews. DVD drives are dirt cheap so replacing it isn't a bad idea.

ok, my driver is done, none of dvd's wanna burn as of today, had a good hunch, out the slim dvd burners which one would give me the option to change the faceplate ? also what dvd burner do we have in as stock one ?

the faceplate just comes off of the dvd burner. you can pull the faceplate off of the old one and put it on the new one.

and the 6860 comes with an NEC/Sony Optiarc AD-7563A Dvd burner.

lite-on is actually a pretty good brand as of late, not to mention the backing behind Newegg. i dont personally know how NCIX is with customer service, but newegg has always been pretty reliable in my experience.

plus the lite-on is cheaper. and correct, no SATA drive for us 6860 users, only IDE/PATA
