I was just doing what Gateway's live chat/help wizz bang team instructed me to do by going into safe mode... I am a long long way from being an official card carrying geek !!!

This is a new computer that i just recently got so i am attempting to burn the recovery and recovery drivers to dvd... I have not tried to burn anything but these to dvd... i have tried both dvd-r and dvd+r with the same results---ERROR CODE 350 BURN FAILED... I have tried 6 times now over the last 4/5 days... Funny but they will burn about 13 minutes and get to 100% but just before they verify is when the error msg comes up and the disc ejects... I never set up administrator or passwords as i am the only one that uses or will use this notebook...

There are more details in my thread here about installing my 2nd hdd in this 7811fx... To me it seems like a major delima most likely due to my lack of computing experience but i would think there should be a fairly easy work around... Thanks...

My brother had the same issue. We both bought our 7805 the same day but he had Geek Squad tweak it. From that point on he couldnt make the recovery disks. Mine no problem. He got the 3 disks from Gateway (in warranty=free out of warranty=20 bucks) He rebooted his system with the disks and everything was fine. It seems the geniuses at Geek squad removed the ghost partition for the recovery system.

Well i don't understand what the ghost partition is but now i am really pizzed at Gateway... My 7811 is still very much in warranty for about 5 more months and after going round and round with gateways online chat/help and then phone support I got fed a line of crap !!!

I was told that recovery is a 1 time shot (likely true) and since my 1st time trying to make recovery dvd's and every attempt after (many) i got this ERROR CODE 350 BURN FAILED... Since i am still within warranty i wonder why i had no choice but to pay 20 buxx... Also, when my 1st attempt ended with the error msg why didn't gateway kiss my rump to make me a happy customer and comp me these discs ??? Thanks...

With my 7805, i forgot which error I got, but i had a few that stopped before 100%. First, I was using CD-R's on accident instead of DVD-R's... but also, I was running apps and stuff while it was burning, which I think may have caused an error. Try to let it run without anything else running.

And from TeKn1qe's response, I think they got the recovery disks for free within warranty... IF you are out of warranty, it's 20 bucks.

Phone back tech support and ask for recovery discs. If for some reason you can't, I'm sure someone has an image of the 7811 for you to burn... sometimes some tech support people have no experience at all, but sometimes you get good ones too.

Whether you are in or out of warranty Gateway will charge the 20 bucks, you have to really complain and ask for management before they will offer them free! It's a royal pain in the arse.
