MY eSATA doesn't work if I try to boot from it when I already have a RAID 0 setup (in other words, I have RAID 0, but I connect a 3rd HD to the eSATA port and that 3rd HD has an installed OS, it won't boot from the 3rd HDs OS).

I can't recall if my eSATA port works after booting from the RAID 0 config and plugging in the external HD when Windows Vista is loaded. I'll have to check.

I have a 500GB Western Digital and 1TB Western digital ES external Drive, and tried 2 different eSata cables to connect them and neither work, I went on the WD website, says not to use the L-shaped Esata (for internal drives) and I have both type of esata cables, neither work right now, The books work in USB but trying to get my eSata working.

you have the chipset drivers installed, correct? if not, look up in the 'Ultimate nVidia driver upgrade guide' and follow the link for the chipset drivers.

the only other thing i can think of is perhaps something with the matrix storage manager.

the only other thing i can tell you is to unplug the the esata drive, reboot, and swap the sides of the cable thats plugged into the laptop (its worked for me before)

has the drive been marked as active under logical disk management?

I don't think the 7811 uses the SiI 3531 controller. Hold on I'll check my 7811...

That is the hw esata controller. Go to intel.com and download the chipset ich9-e/m software driver which will enable esata port.

Check also if your intel storage matrix is installed properly.

Esata works fine on my 7805 and the 7811 that preceded it. It works off the Intel southbridge on both and should be working just by installing Intel chipset drivers and maybe the matrix storage drivers.

Ah I tried everything on 64bit, even formatted C and installed 32 bit, all drivers up to date and working - still doesn't work.

Perhaps folks could post brands of esata drives which are working with 7811 or other Gateways?
