    Hello again.

Yesterday morning I sent an email to a Gateway sales rep asking if they would price match an hp HDX configured similarly to the P-172X FX. They HDX had the $500 coupon so it was significantly cheaper. I showed my rep screenshots of the hp specs and quote. The rep replied, saying his manager wanted to know "where I would be" on pricing. I replied that I wanted it to be similar to the HDX. This was at about 1:00 PM. The rep's sig stated that he was at work until 4:00 PM but I never received a response.

I'd like to know if they're willing to match the hp offer or not. Should I go ahead and contact another rep or wait until Saturday and ask the one I had before?

That's pretty standard from all sales reps... what does that mean in the context of my current situation?

As long as you're honest - no lying, or falsely giving your word - I can't think of anything which would not be fair in arranging purchases such as this (or cars, for instance). A man's word must be gold, though, IMO.

I see. Well, I definitely didn't give my word; I told them that chances were I'd wait until late July to buy unless I could find a great deal now. Is there a way for me to just reach the manager though, since this all seems to depend on him/her anyway?

To be honest though, matching might be a tad tough since they are very different laptops.

Give it a short by all means though.

I'm hoping for a situation similar to Lakjin's. I configured an HDX with specs virtually identical to those on the XFX for about $1670 including tax after the $500 discount and a 3% fatwallet.com cashback.

Anyway, I chatted with another sales rep and apparently their manager is out until the weekend so I'll just talk to my first rep on saturday and hope for the best.
