Hi. Did anyone buy two of the same laptop? One for now and the other one for later? Would that be a good idea for someone who could afford two now and not later?

I would think that if you don't need 2 now, it would be an incredibly bad (read: stupid) idea to buy 2. Technology always gets better, faster and cheaper. New things come out. Li-on batteries have a shelf life.

If you have the money now, spend half of it on a nice computer, and put the rest in the bank for later.

Yeah, by the time you need one for later, that money that you would have used to buy a second model will buy you double the performance. Technology changes that fast.

I personally think it's better to buy a much better computer right now, rather than two middling ones. Go as fast as you can get now to stretch as much life out of it as you can, and make sure you get the OS reinstallation CD's

    NO
Buy one, put rest of money in high yield savings bonds.
Use that money (which will also have grown on interest) later on to buy the second laptop

Well, I bought 2 Emachines W4620 notebooks. They were about $350 each.

It may be that 2 $600 laptops will out perform one 1 $1200 laptop if you are running them at the same time. This will give you some reduntancy in data storage and it is unlikely that both machines will be in the shop at the same time.

Well, I was looking at getting a replacement battery for my one laptop. The battery is $150. so I thought it would be nice if I just got another laptop. One for now and one for later. I don't think I will ever find another laptop for so cheap.
I don't want to wear out one without being able to keep it for a long long time.
