Hey Guys,
Just when I thought I got the deal of the century, my expresscard slot latch failed![]()

! I was using my lappy last night when all of a sudden, the dummy card in the slot released flew literally 10 feet onto the ground. I tried to reattach it but it would not "click" back into place. The spring mechanism is still good. But the locking latch that holds the card in place must have failed or broken off.
I tried to search here to see if anyone has had similar issues but it seems like I am the only one. Just my luck. I actually took it back to BestBuy and they let me play with another one but that one only had the lower res screen so I said no with the exchange. I might send it in myself to Gateway to have it repaired. I kinda wished it happened on the first day when I could have gotten another WUGA model as an exchange.
Has anybody here had this issue or know of anyone who did? It's not a huge loss as I don't have any Expresscard peripherals yet but I am sure that I will once USB 3.0 comes along. Thank goodness I bought a USB Tuner card instead of the Expresscard ones.

mine did the same thing, on my 6860. I didn't really care, and it holds my express card in there fine.

Thanks N00d13s for the reply. The Geek Squad guy tried a Verizon card in the slot and the spring just kept pushing it out. I didn't check to see if it actually seated or not. But I would imagine no since the pins inside the slot seem pretty deep.

haha kind of funny it just flew out. I bought mine used and it didn't come with the dummy card, so I don't know if mine has a problem or not. Oh well, I don't really plan on using that slot anyways, only thing I could think of using is a sound card. But I'll probably build a USB DAC later anyways.

Citizen86, yes it was pretty crazy. I didn't know the spring had THAT much tension! I had to get off my bed and walk 10 feet to retrieve it.
And yes, the only items I considered for the slot were either a tuner card or a Soundblaster Xtreme card but I am happy with the onboard decoder for everyday audio and CDs. I might use the slot only for future higher speed I/O devices as they become available.

I cannot believe this mechanical thing happening to more than one laptop. I must have played with this for hours on end to fix this with not luck.
If anybody have any idea how to fix this please post.
I really do not want to deal with Gateway support or sent my lappie in for repair. -
Wait your saying it Flew out, thats fricking sweet lol.

It's not the ideal problem to have, but it's not like it's going to detract from your laptop at all if you are not using it... -

My ExpressCard latch failed tonight. The dummy card didn't shoot out dramatically, just popped out about an inch or so. It's not the end of the world, but like husky55 said, it's annoying just knowing it's failed and I can't put something in there.
