Sometimes when I am outside my house without a plug, I use my computer as a MP3 player and can only get around 2-3 hours of play. I realized that when I turned the screen off the battery meter says around 5 hours of play. I am wondering what else I can do to extend my battery life further, such as undervolting. In particular, can anyone tell me how to turn off my 9800m gts temporarily?

I'm not sure if there is a way to turn it off, but you can uninstall your driver and see if that will increase your batterylife (kind of like the card being off)

then just reinstall the driver (takes very little time)

Undervolt and set the Power Saving profile so SLFM is the only checked multiplier. This will lock the processor to 800MHz, and will increase your battery life.

Turning off the screen is a great idea.

Turning off software running in the background will help also as hardware resources are freed up.

    Turn off WIFI.

Turn off status lights by pressing FN+F1

Read the manual, iirc it has a couple battery life saving tips.

I'm not sure about the video card, however there is tons of stuff you can do to extend the battery life.
