Does the Gateway p6831 FX VGA support an external monitor with 2560x1600 resolution?
or does the Gateway p6831 FX HDMI support an external monitor with 2560x1600 resolution?
-
you need DVI dual link for 2560x1600. The best resolution under the included HDMI is 1920x1200...............
Not sure about VGA but supposedly if both the card and monitor support it then yes you can get higher than 1200P...........
Edit; I am not sure over VGA what the max resolution of a 8800m is, let alone our FX systems possible limitations... -
I can't go above 1920x1080 on my 6860 with VGA.
-
Currently, I have a 1920x1200 on my external monitor via VGA, but I am looking to upgrade to a 30" 2560x1600
-
I think VGA can support 2560x1600, but I think the refresh rate will be like 30 or so.

@chillerman625 You are correct
I just got my new Dell u3011 connected to my Notebook Gateway P-6831 vii VGA to VGA at 2560x1600 by reducing the frequency to 35 Hz. I just go into the NVidia Control and add custom 2560x1600 at 35 Hz. -
Doesn't it flicker at 35Hz?
-
It does not flicker at 35hz, but with the VGA cable it is kind of blurry compare to my Gateway P6831 Expresscard to ATI 6850 external graphic card from displayport to to displayport at 2560x1600. I am going to test it via HDMI at 35hz to compare the images.

We are HDMI 1.3c and this is a digital connection. Your VGA is converting an analog signal from the computer. Since the monitor is IPS and high color depth lowering refresh may not get you there. Also the monitor must support the format, which it may not.
Since the pannel is most likely locked at 60Hz and just converting the 35Hz it shouldn't flicker but movement may be choppy. As mention since this is a D/A at the computer and then a A/D conversion at the monitor it is probably blurry and you may also experience pixel shift.
In the end since it is true digital the monitor under HDMI may limit you but if it doesn't plese post the monitor type as that may be an interst here as well............... -
Yep, it is blurry, so now, I am using my external GPU set up. I will try laptop HDMI to Dell u3011 2560x1600 monitor HDMI at 35 HZ when I get the HDMI cables.

When I test Laptop HDMI to Dell u3011 HMDI at 2560x1600 using 35hz with CVT reduced black, it works with testing, but I can not get it add to custom resolution.
When I test Laptop HDMI to Dell u3011 HMDI at 2560x1600 using 35hz with Automatic timing, it works but it blurry, so need to add CVT reduced black timing, but I can not get it to work.
