So I just put the t9600 in my 7811. Now after awhile in cod4 the framerate drops to where it is unplayable for about 10-30 seconds! I'm using the same drivers and settings for when I had the P8400 in. Can anyone tell me whats up?

Check temperatures to make sure nothing is overheating and check processes to make sure nothing is hogging resources for those 10-30 seconds. Leave task manager open on the performance tab (or another 3rd party software) and then check the readings when you experience the lag.

In HW monitor TZS0 was at 98c at the slowdown. So I guess that means I have to undervolt right?

    Definitely overheating than.
    Undervolt,
Make sure your not blocking the vents.
Raise the laptop about an inch off the surface that its on with anything (bottle caps on all four corners of the laptops, etc).
    Get a cooler.

    ^^ Your options :)

You didnt seat the heatsink properly on the new chip. Did you use thermal paste?

Of course! I used a thin layer of arctic silver 5. And then mounted it with the same tightness...

Christ... talk to E-wrecked about this. I have the same problem when I OC my video card, and I have a P8400. I don't know what I'm going to do when I upgrade the processor.

How'd you apply it? Covered the whole spot?
I believe your suppose to put a line of the thermal paste down the center of the area, than wiggle the heatsink GENTLY putting it on so it moves it around itself.

I'm no expert so somebody else should explain this :)

Even if theres no thermal paste, it shouldnt overheat like that.

I know the T9600 is 35w TDP chip compared to the P8400's 25w TDP but it still shouldnt overheat that bad.

Try reseating the chip and heatsink to see if you missed something. Check the fans are blowing warm air out.

That spike is a false positive basically, as its never hitting 98 degrees(just says it is) and its a known problem with the 7811s . i and many others had that problem in the past and the only choice you have is to undervolt which can help . Go thru some of the old 7811 bios threads and you can read all about it .
