Lets start one: Pro's and Con's of the physical build and quality of parts/components

    My opinion
Pro: Seems like strong plastic, smooth, glossy and sleek. I like the color scheme (graphite/black/orange/silver)

Cons: This things a fingerprint magnet! Really. plastic around screen seems too large and cheap and...fingerprinty...Surging cooling fans (annoying noise). heavy. although the hinges seem stiff and sturdy and I dont notice flex in the screen and overall laptop when opening/closing, the little plastic knobs on each side of the hinges seem that overtime they could pop off...?

It scuffs very easy around the LCD besel. It has kind of a cheap plastic feel to it aswell. But Gateway had to cut costs to produce a unit of these specs. Still is one of the best 17inch gaming laptops in its price range.

love the build quallity(no issues), hate the support. I've got an email in about bios upgrades that is starting to make me furious. I actually had a person ask me the price I paid for my laptop. They don't need this information. That is absurd.

    Build quality is fine...
    Quality control is the issue.

On that note, i wish it was easier to fully take apart, and diddn't have easily broken plastic snaps

The P-FX series chassis is one of the easiest laptops to take apart I have ever experienced. Plenty of room and all of the screws are color coded and about 85% of them are all identical so re-assembly is cake.

The plastic tabs are annoying, but knock-on-wood, I haven't broken any nor experienced any quality issues.

Yes it is a fingerprint magnet, and tech support seems to be awesome or sucky. No problems whatsoever if you get transferred to Level 2 though.

I had to remove the motherboard to get to my GPU. I still stand by my assumption. Especially compared to the HP DV9000 series.

huh, that's odd, because i had a hell of a time just getting the media panel off!
And the palm rest diddn't want to budge either! (yes i got the screw under the HDD)

Regardless, compaired to the other laptops i have worked with, this is tuff, and i especially hate the plastic snaps... i'd much rather have it screwed together 'better' than snapes :(

Yeah, the snaps suck. They are aggravating. Seems as though they will break, but I didn't break em when I installed BT. The frame around the screen does mar easily. That's why I got a soft piece of fabric from a Walmart and cut it to size. You all know the black piece of paper/cloth that was covering the screen when it was new out of the box, that was made as a protector. Mine ripped and so I made my own. if any one has one they don't want, send it this way. But over all it is nicely built I thought especially for the price.......

I agree that this notebook is cake to dismantle (once you figure out how anyways). It's large size leads it to not be nearly as cramped as most notebooks, my old HP I had before it was a nightmare to take apart. I'm starting to have second thoughts about how much i use it vs what i spent on it though... Unfortunately I can't stand the thought of taking a fat L on it selling it either...
