These are just a few features I'd like to see on future FX models. Hopefully Gateway is paying attention.
Feel free to add to the list.
- Backlit keyboard. Dim orange for me please.

- Touch-sensitive multimedia keys to go with the volume control. Or simply get rid of them and have touch-sensitive audio controls only.
- A third internal antenna for more capable wireless cards (ie. Intel 5300)
- Infrared transceiver.
- ESATA USB Combo port.
- Internal USB port with enough room around it for a small wireless mouse transceiver or flash drive.
- Better speakers. Just another notch or two higher than the current quality would be fine.
-
XXXm GTX series GPUS. ex. 9800m GTX-=-=-GTX 260m
thats pretty much it. -
I can do without the media keys altogether, or if they are not removed I like your idea about them being touch sensitive.
blacklit keyboard is badass too!
but my MAIN concern is the speakers on the laptop -
speakers and bluetooth.
and quad core support -
Back-lit keyboard!! PLEASE!!!! MUCH better speakers. And Quad core support with 9800GT-GTX availability. That would all be fine and dandy but I haves ta say, I am SO happy with my 7811s for the price. SLI couldn't hurt either.

If the 7805 had built-in bluetooth like my 6860, I would've bought it. For now I'll just have to remain content with the ol' 6860. I'm definitely excited to see what else Gateway cooks up in this new year.
-
Matte LCD, with good color representation.
CTRL key in the bottom left corner.
Better speakers and Blu-Ray would be nice additions.
Keep the price between $1000-$1500. -
i would say to
let me make a custom laptop like all do.
if they will keep this price ratio this would be awesome -
CTRL Key, bluetooth, and better GPU cooling.
-
Haha Ctrl key for sure, screw whoever put the FN key there. Bluetooth wouldn't be bad, and if its not patented a IR remote that docks in the expresscard slot like some of the HPs have, one feature I miss about my DV6609.

Yeah I think they use the same one, or at least one that is really similar

I'm pretty happy with mine though the crtl/fn swap wouldnt be a terrible thing to have happen, and having a MXMIV connection would be really nice
-
It's too bad the FN key is near impossible to remap or you could just make a custom keyboard layout and pop the keys off and swap them probably.
-
-YES, fix the ctrl key to the corner!
-enable extreme edition overclocking features in the bios.
-make the volume slider touch pad more sensitive.
-make a more solid wifi on/off switch
-add bluetooth as a standard item
-add IR
-make the wifilink 5300 the standard with 3corded antennae
-make the media buttons mapable.
-offer intel cpu management options in the bios, ie, speedstep on/off, enable/disable C4E etc.
-allow for lower brightness/contrast settings on the lcd.
-offer nvidia hybrid power hardware switch, integrated to dedicated gpu
-conform to oem industry standards for gpu upgrades ie, sager/clevo etc, and program the vga bios seperately from the system bios.
-allow limited cpu/chipset/mem management options for under/overvolt and overclocking performance tuning settings. ie, cpu/mem/chipset voltage modifiers in +/- .1~3 v's. adjustable fsb 100-500mhz, pci-e mhz lock, memory divider options etc. or even just a few i mean c'mon, dont be so chinsy
-change the sound card to 7.1 24/192 output via optical AND hdmi. or at least one or the other instead of 2 channel.
better speakers for sure, more low end, they are decent, but could be better.
-make a Fn-key for volume up/down/mute or offer a faster alternative to sliding the volume up/down.
-enable quadcore support, and offer public bios updates more often.
-extend the warranty to international coverage
-more usb ports!
-powered eSata for new/upcoming eSata flash drives (unless it is already)
-have a more rigid chassis.
THINGS NOT TO CHANGE:
- Keep the keyboard! its great, all except for the ctrl/fn key swap. and Fn volume keys
-keep the 1920x1200 screen
-keep the dual sata hdd's with raid
-keep the dual mini-pci-e slots (i think thats what they are, for the wifi nics etc)
-keep the Fn key for turning off all LED's. SWEET feature.
-keep the 9cell battery -
-
-An integrated subwoofer
-backlit keyboard, useful but not overpowering
-a more dynamic analog key layout (let's be honest, some of the locations for keys just doesn't make sense on these machines)
-Aluminum Case, just a more solid build
-Aesthetic choices, gateway! Give us colors! Matted or glossy! Led options! -
Wireless charger.
Detachable Nimzy Vibro Blaster kind of thing (see here - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V36WD5_Nx5c)
Have already proposed this vibro blaster thing on dell's ideastorm - didn't get much attention. -

they are mapable.. Mine Launch to Winamp and VLC. Though i pretty much NEVER use them. I think they're kind of gimmicky and useless personally. Same the volume slider and the cheap wifi switch on the front of the laptop.
All pretty useless... remove all that crap... oh and swap the fn/ctrl keys... annoying to have it that way in photoshop. You'd think you'd get used to it, but you don't. -
Yep I agree with everyone else. Firstly, either switch the FN key with the CTRL key or enable something in the BIOS that alows them to be switchable.
Probably asking for too much but: a little bit smaller screen like 15.4" or smaller but keep the GFX?? I want it to be game-able and still portable. But I think once you name something as a "gaming" rig, its highly understandable that it cannot be moved or could be hard to move.
Comes with an SSD?
For the P-6860FX, once you plug in the mic, you dont have to keep setting it that the input you have placed on the jack is a MIC.
And that is it for me I suppose? -
Even though I have a 6860 I'll just pretend I have a 7811
-Bluetooth
-support for up to 16 GB DDR3 (Still Comes with 4 GB)
-Two MXMIV slots so that end user can add a 2nd GPU/ be able to upgrade GPU
-Sells with quad core BIOS can overclock any cpu
-3 HDD Bays
-Internal USB port -

they're controlled by keys in the registry... the whole process is detailed in the 7811 FAQ thread... -
Oh and other features that would be cool, a mini battery that doesnt stick out (for primarily AC users, just as like a UPS) or even just a dummy cover, and expressgate type technology to log in quick and do something like check a web page and then shut down. -
This is a fantastic machine already which is why it got my hard earned, but here's my feedback.
Additions:
-Internal Bluetooth for wireless mouse/keyboard without the need to tie up a USB port
-Port Replicator Option (my laptop is my desktop replacement)
-5.1 or 7.1 sound capabilities via Port Replicator or other means so I can use my surround sound at home
-1 more usb port would solve some problems for me
-BluRay in the future (I have no use for it, but some people like the idea with the 1920X1200 screen).
-"Baby FX" in a 13 (1440X900) or 15(1680X1050) inch model complete with a 9600GT or even a full 9800GTS graphics solution. I think there's a demand for portable gaming very much the same way the EEE PC blew up the netbook market. -
I believe they had a 15 inch FX at one point. I remember seeing a smaller one than mine walking through my university.
-

They did. it was an M series FX with a mid(ish) grade ATI video card in it. A pretty nice computer all in all
-
All joking aside, I would have liked to get one of those smaller FX's (6864 I believe) since it would have been nice and portable, but I am still perfectly happy with my 6860
