hdiu9 RAID 0 WD 250.jpg................I have 2 Hitachi 200gb 7200s which I will set up later in RAID 0 and I will post results, 2 WD 250s in RAID 0 is pretty impressive.

Very nice - looking forward to seeing the 7200s in RAID 0.
How hot does the palmrest get with both of those in the system?
N -
Great job Snowsurfer, glad you posted that.
-
Cant wait to see the 200gb 7200s raid 0, I will buy two ASAP!
-
Thanks, great info.
I had posted questions about the HD temps. I see the Hitachi is hitting 50C like the WD. It's going to get interesting with two drives running full tilt boogie. It looks like the only cooling these guys get is when one or both fans are running? The WD is 60C and the Hitachi is 55C max operational. -
Is it better to use x86 or x64 Vista on this machine?
-
Um...What does that have to do with this thread?
-
i would be happy to run the 5400 in raid 0.

So by looking at all the information, 2 200mb 7200s in raid 0 looks much faster, but do you notice the diffrence?
-
Thanks! +1 rep for you! I echo flynnaz's question - can you notice the difference with the RAID0?
N -
From a desktop standpoint the only time I noticed going from a standard drive with 12ms response and 70mb/s to a 4 disk RAID 0 with 10ms response and 300mb/s the gain is just in load times for games...transfering from DVD or CD is just as slow because of the CD/DVD drive. I'm definitely gonna be putting in a second 250gb 5400 in mine, for storage, speed, and cost.
-
What would be the WD 250mb 5400s Hard Drive to by to match the existing one, to setup raid 0?
-
-
Was the 1000 point gain from the 5400s raid 0 upgrade or the 7200s raid 0 upgrade, was there a big diffrence between the two?
-
Snowsurfer, How did to copy over your data from your wd250 to the wd250raid0 setup? Did you clone the existing wd250? or can you just add the second hard drive, reboot, select raid0 in the Bios and it works? Also does the WD Passport External 250GB Hard Drive, have a WD Scorpio 250gb in it? They are on sale at Best Buy.

Hello everyone,
Here is my before and after scores for a 250 Gb WD x 2 RAID 0 setup. Didn't have the cash for two 7200RPM drives, so I set up the "poor man's RAID." Just bought a 2nd WD and slapped it in. Here are the scores (note: single drive scores are based on the machine straight out of the box; RAID 0 scores are with a clean install of Vista Home Premium):
Windows Experience, HD: 5.2 before, 5.9 after
Sandra Drive Index: 41.6 before, 75.91 after
HDTune: MIN 26.8 before, 54.6 after
MAX 61.7 before, 94.5 after
AVG 43.7 before, 78.1 after
Overall, I'm pleased. It's not the 7200's I wanted, but it makes a difference.

Yes, the WD passport 250 has the WD Scorpio 250 in it. -
Thank you Scorp40, I hav'nt got my P-171x FX yet, its for my wife, thats funny what your bottom information says. Thank you for the information, I'm on the fence whether to go (2) 200mb 7200s raid0 or (2) wd250 raid0

Are you using two Hitachi 7K200s?
I haven't tried HD Tune 3.00 yet but here are my 2.55 ones.

Let me try to edit the link and see if that works
Yep should be working now. -
Sick scores guys. I'm going to grab another Scorpio for mine.

See specs in my signature (2x Hitachi 7K200 RAID 0).

Any of you guys tracking your HD temps? I formated 2nd internal Passport drive to NTFS and it hit 57C! This was in a 75F room. I average about 44C.
Both drives can hit +50C at the end of a workout. I notice that HD Tune does not report both drive temps in RAID? -
I have two 5400rpm 320gb Scorpio's (WD3200BEVT). Everything else is stock on my Gateway P-6831FX.
HD Tune: Intel Raid 0 Volume Benchmark
Transfer Rate Minimum : 59.4 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Maximum : 107.2 MB/sec
Transfer Rate Average : 85.2 MB/sec
Access Time : 16.6 ms
Burst Rate : 79.3 MB/sec
CPU Usage : 7.9%
Curious how long it takes for a stock Gateway P-6831FX to get to the Vista Welcome screen from power on?? I haven't actually clocked my times yet but think that it is around a minute for me.
Hydra, not sure what my hard drive temps are. My HD Tune benchmark screen had a blank tempurature value.Attached Files:

For the second Hard Drive, does the Laptop come with mounting screws? If not where is a good place to find some besides my old laptop
-
I just used 2 screws from the other hard drive. They're both pretty secure in the bay, nothing is loose. Also the hard drive that comes in the laptop, is a PITA to get out. I ripped off the paper tab trying to get it out.
-
Thank you for the heads up
-
If anyone is using program or software that will monitor temps on these Raid 0 setups, pleassse let me know. Thanks!
