Hello, i bought this refurbished gateway from ebay one month ago and i have some problems with it, which seems to appear on many 7805u but i read 20pages of this forum without find a solution:

    - this only happens with some games (mount and blade, and sometimes overlord but not on counter strike or killing floor or blood bowl).

Sometimes the screen flickers and horizontal lines appears, then the sound may crash (same sound always played) and the computer needs a reboot.

This never happens while being on internet or anything else like watching movies, but only when playing some games.

I tried many video drivers, (installad correctly each time), everything works well with 3Dmark06, or furmark, the temperature while playing is never more than 66C for the gpu.
edit: and yes i also have the little hissing sound from the power adapter but only if i'm very close to it

The only thing i've done to this computer is adding a new hd (a seagate).

What can i do to try to solve this please?

I live in france so i'd like to find a solution for my laptop because sending it back to the refurbisher would cost me much money, thank you very much ^^

Do these horizontal lines kind of look like static?

If so it could be a faulty GPU, I have sent my 7805u into gateway twice already for the same thing and they still have not fixed it yet, and I am about ready to send it in a 3rd time. There have been a lot of other posts about the video driver stoped responding error, and I know I have had no luck.

The only driver I have found that works perfectly is DOX 185.02, but its starting to become outdated.

Yes theses lines are static and then flicker from one side of the screen to another :/

Damn, no way to check if it's a faulty gpu before sending it back to the refurbisher :/

    I can't find dox 185.02 ? maybe you wanted to say 182.05?

    Thanks for the answer

Have you tried reseating the moniter cable? There have been a number of others tell about this same problem, and reseating the screens cable has for the most part fixed all of them.

No i haven't tried reseting the cable yet, but it seems a little complicated there is a risk to void the garanty ? And even though it would be the cable, the display would crash but not the sound and the game no?
