I have an external enclosure with 2 1.5tb drives. When I plug the enclosure in via usb, the computer sees both drives just fine. When I plug it in via esata, I can only see one drive.

Intel matrix manager pops up saying only one drive will be visible because of a port multiplier or something to that effect.

does this mean i'll be better off getting an expresscard to esata adapter and forget about the built in port esata port on the FX-7811?

    no just JBOD..

in RAID mode it's even worse, the comp only sees about 400gb of the whole 1.5tb(Raid1) via esata, via usb everything is fine

In bios maybe you can change AHCI mode or something? And also you can update intel matrix storage manager and chipset drivers.

it is in AHCI mode, and I did update to the latest chipset and matrix drivers...

I guess the port just can't handle an enclosure with a port multiplier?

Does the enclosure have 1 or 2 eSATA ports on it? I have a HDD dock that has 2 eSATA and 1 USB, if I plug in the USB I see both drives. But eSATA is for 1 drive, so I have a eSATA port multiplier so I can use both drives.
