    Hi all.

I have just upgrade my 7805u with this parts:
    - SSD 120 Gb OCZ Vertex 2
    - 8GB RAM 1333 G.Skill
    - x9100 CPU

At this moment I am just playing with some OC, but I am very newby at this, never did that before since the very first K6-2 and PIII CPUs.

That is why I would like some advices, because I have been reading at the forum but I have only been able to find final result, not the process. At this moment, I know that overclocking the GPU needs the tools from Nvidia, and that seems easy to do. My problem is while messing with the CPU, is it ThrottleStop the only way to overclock the X9100 on my 7805u or is there any modified BIOS or something?

Another question is about the FSB, because I have been trying to change it but no way with ThrottleStop, is it possible to use SetFSB or better to touch only the multiplier?

    Thanks for your advice!

Used to have one. Not sure about the BIOS or not, but I don't think so. There is a thread here somewhere in which we were discussing Quads and the like. It had some info in it. If I come across it, I will link.

Yeah, i have read some of those posts, but what I would really appreciate is a "Step by step" guide or something like this.

Can't really help ya there much. I had a 2.8 P7800(?) in mine. Just left it alone as it was plenty good.

Without hardware mod you can not setfsb these. TS is the only available overclock..............

Ok! So, te only way to overclock is modiftying the multiplier and voltage?

I am sorry for needing so many explanations, but it is my first time :)

    Thanks for the help!

You would have to do a pin mod etc. to do SetFSB. The only way to modify the multiplier is with an Extreme CPU. The voltage MAY be modifiable with any CPU as I think you can undervolt with say RMClock.............

Thanks for the answer, now lets try some combinations of FID and VID and see what happens :)

I have made some tests but I think I am making something wrong.

    Those are the specs:
    - x9100@3600Mhz (FID: 13.5, VID: 1.2375)
    - 9800m @ 700-900-1700

    3D Mark06 Results: 11000, with CPU score of 3200

I have been reading and people manage to get 12000+ without problems.

Any advice on how to proceed upgrading my overclock?

    Thanks!

    i'm surprised you managed to complete 3dMark06 on a 3.6GHz OC @ 1.2375v

I need a minimum of 1.3v @ 3.6GHz to be fully stable without BSOD under orthos/OCCT/3Dmark.

I can run 3.6 at 1.2500 but orthose has issues. I'd suggest orthose dual core and find your stable settings without errors.

I run for the four settings as below. I can Orthose too Fid 14 for 15 minutes but above that I overheat. I am sure an over nighter would overheat Fid 14 but Fid 13 runs stable at 82c max. for most everyday I use Fid 12 as it keeps it nice and cool and is more than fast enough.

    1.) Fid 12 Vid 1.1875 3.200 GHz
    2.) Fid 13 Vid 1.2500 3.458 GHz
    3.) Fid 14 Vid 1.3625 3.724 GHz
    4.) Fid 15 Vid 1.4500 3.990 GHz

So your 7805 is holding up well??? Wish I woulda kept mine as it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more portable than the M17X. And was still, a very nice machine, and still is from what I see.

Mine is holding up so far well. I don't however game with it so the GPU doesn't go through alot of stress. From what I've read those M17x are monsters...................

    Hi.

I am trying those FID and VID values but i have noticed something, when I use FID 12 and VID 1,1875 the clock of the CPU is no stable, moves +-100Mhz on ThrottleStop monitor, but on CPUz is fixed at 3191Mhz.

Any idea? I thought it was because of low VID for that FID, but I am not sure because if I use a higher VID it sometimes moves also up and down the Mhz.

Well, maybe that is why I am getting so low score. Let's try unchecking C-state box, but I thinkt it is not checked.

c-states is the box that can cause the cpu to loose speed, at least on my system. It does appear with it checked though it will lock at full speed if under load.

I have been playing SC2 with my CPU@3,6Ghz and 1,2375 and it is laggy and seems to be not working properly. After nearly 1 hour of gaming, I got a BSOD, and then, started to have BSOD repeteadly. After that, I rised the VID to 1,25 and after playing a couple of hours with the 9800 also overcloced (700-930-1750) everything was OK, no BSOD at all, also tried 3Dmark, prime95... the max temperatures were:
TZ0: 98ºC (it must be a bug, because it jumps from 60º to 98ºC and sticks in there without moving)
    TZ1: 70ºC
    CPU: 68ºC
    GPU: 65ºC

I think those are good numbers, but still feel like the CPU is not well configured because the clock is not fixed on ThrottleStop monitor. I have tried to rise the VID to 1,3 and see if it gets fixed but not.

All the time, the C-State and powersaver are not checked, and powermizer is: OFF no AC/ON on battery"

Any idea? On CPUz the clock is fixed at 3591Mhz, doesn't move.

as far as i'm aware, CPU-Z/Everest/AIDA64/ only report the highest overclock after you have unlocked the X9100 with Throttlestop. For example, I sometimes play around with a 3.99GHz @ 1.45v even though i normally run at 3.4GHz. As such, all the afore-mentioned programs report that my X9100 seemingly runs at 3.99GHz even if i change to a lower OC setting afterwards.

An exception is when you switch over to SLFM mode @ 1.8GHz @ 1.000v in which case, all the programs now report 1.8GHz.

Well, that is not my case. When I change the FIV voltage, the CPUz shows the actual highest clock with that settings, for example, after being @ 3,6Ghz, if I lower the clock to 3,2Ghz, CPUz shows that number. The problem with ThrottleStop clocl is that it doesn't show 3,6Ghz exactly, it goes up and down from 3,4 3,5 3,6 even 3,3Ghz sometimes, doesn't show a fixed clock.
