Ok gents,
I bought my 7811 a couple months ago from best buy, and first things first, this system kicks royal tail. Now Ive been reading on here everything I can find about upgrading this beast, optimizing, fixing, and who knows what else. Now my question is, I installed 3dmarkvantage today, and its showing my ram as DDR-2 instead of DDR-3.... I paid for DDR-3 ram, is 3dmark just not showing correctly, or did gateway and bestbuy stiff me??? Thanks guys for all the posts Ive seen on here, Ive had many of the same problems described in here so far lol. Also what temperature monitoriing software are you guys using?
-
keep in mind that 3dmark vantage was released before DDR3 was released (for laptops at least) so it will most likely require a patch to display all the info correctly -
Don't worry about it, the chipset and motherboard in the 7811FX are physically impossible to take DDR2, you can only have DDR3 in it.

Thanks guys,
Oh I saw another user a couple weeks ago complain about the random power off keyboard half working issue, I had the same issue. If it ever does that, just remove the battery, let it sit off with no power for bout 5 to 10 minutes, and the keyboard will work again.. Mine has done it twice and gateway has no idea what causes it. Go figure.... -
I use Rivatuner to monitor GPU temps and FPS in games, and Nvidia system monitor for the rest. Thinking of downloading HWmonitor too, it seems to be pretty standard. If you use the search bar you can find links to all of these, I'm too lazy to do it for you... sorry
Edit: There are also walkthroughs and guides for them all over these forums... -
search FRAPS LIKE PROGRAM FOR GPU, CPU TEMPS. there was a link to a thread on how to use rivatuner and everest to have an ON SCREEN DISPLAY like fraps. worked great, but i didnt like the big letters and old school font, so i use hwmonitor for gpu, cpu temps. Just tap+alt out of the game and have the hwmonitor program running.

I am new to this model as well and so far I have had zero issues with it, the battery life is great, the display is awesome, and it is perfect for what I am using it for, I do wish it was lighter though.
What is Vista Blackviper>? -
Thanks guys for the help. Now next dumb question, would an intel turbo memory module be worth getting? Im all for tricking this beast out as much as possible and re-teaching myself some new stuff at the same time lol.
Thanks again guys, this old dog is learning some new tricks lol. -
