    Hi all,

I have a few questions aboutt his processor. Intel T9550.

Wil it work in the Gateway P7805u?
Will it be a plug&play swap?
Is the battery life going to go down a lot?

PS: how can i chnage the name of the topic?

Yes the t9550 will work in the 7805,but unfortunatly no one could get the quads to work (even with the quad support BIOS)

Kinda makes me sad there. The 78xx series with quad support would rock (especially since teh exact same machine the 7808 seems to work quads just fine)

Yeah its pretty much just plug and play. just be sure to use some good thermal good. Alot of people are recommend the ICD7 over atric silver (though i'm partial to Artic ceremique even if it doesnt cool "quite" as well)

You shouldnt even notice the battery difference unless you are just on battery all the time.

What would you like the title to be?

The 7808u probably required a lot of R&D and a redesigned power circuitry to get it to work sadly :(.

    That might be the case.

Not having a 7808, i'll never be sure. And seeing as its not much of an upgrade to me so its not really worth the effort to get one to tear apart just to find out the difference. Only 1 member of the forums even has the 7808 that i know about and I forgot to ask what kind of power supply came with it :(

Oh well heres to looking forward to the capella Gateway FX laptop :D

just push them all! at the same time...hahah

well your a good choice, im sure you will do well!

as to the processor what everyone has said so far, the quads will not work. They have the same pin layout but require, I think, a modified socket for them to function properly.

Ok., thx for the help. I might buy the T9550 or T9600 in the future.
How much performance increase (about) am i going to have compared to the stock P8400? Is it actually worth the swap ~primary use gaming?

How about the thermal paste should i apply a lot? Or just a think layer like in desktops?

Few questions about the T9550/ T9600

you should see a decent preformance boost, nothing earth shattering, but helpful.

As to the thermal paste... thats really all according to what you use. A thin layer is typically the best route on most of the pastes you can get though. Not sure about the ICD7 though as i've never used it

    done and done
yay my first offical action as a mod :p

    ..
I got another question. How safe do u think is transporting a CPU from Europe to US? Im gonna be in EU and wanna take the CPU to US and im worried about all those magnetical/ x ray etc scanners. Can they do any dammage to the CPU . I wanna keep it in a hand luggage.

Assuming you pack it well enough to survive the trip I dont think the scanners will have any adverse effect on the CPU.

    Hi,

whats the difference in these two sockets? PGA478 | BGA479.

    Im buying a T9600 with a spec code: SLB47 which is a socket PGA478

    Does gateway support both sockets?

both are so enough for today; i tried a T9400 and saw A LOT MUCH BIG HUGE difference!. for little price difference (less than $30) i'll pick the T9600.
    good luck brother :p

my friend is transporting a lot of CPU , laptop , etc from US to dubai! there is no fear.
by the way for the paste , use a thin layer but totally covered. when u install it, the heat sink automatically fix it up. don't be worry, i have changed my CPU without paste several times! :D
