I have finally decided after much debate to upgrade the FX. I was debating between upgrading the FX or saving for a new laptop. I believe that the FX is more than capable for the level of computing and gaming I do. Here is my list of upgrades that are going to be ordered this weekend:

    Intel T9900 CPU
    Intel T5300 WiFi Card
Seagate 500 GB 7,200 RPM HDD
    LG 17" WUXGA LCD
    Patriot Torx/Corsair 128 GB SSD
ICD7/24.....if there isn't a difference, I might need the bigger one, I plan on doing my CPU, GPU, and Northbridge.

It is all gonna cost around $800 all together. Any advise or comments would be appreciated. Thanks for all the help.

You dont have to make a separate thread for every single upgrade question you have lol... its all related to stick with a thread and we will help you.... that being said you plan on utilizing an SSD with sata? Do you consider space an issue? or would about 600 GB be good enough? Seems like you have a sick plan for your FX

that would be a very nice FX laptop but if i were to spend that much money i would just build a desktop.

Wow! Based on my research the Corsair SSD is about $380 and the T9900 is about $325 and thats $700 right there. Do you mind sharing where you are getting the items you listed for $700??

Sorry....I'll work on that from now on. Thanks though.

Don't have room for a desktop, and would rather have a laptop.

I am selling my stock parts, plus another 320 GB HDD......I did round down, sorry. I guess it will end up more around $800 dollars. Again, sorry for the misconception. I changed my first post. Thanks for the feedback though.

I would buy a SSD disk wich can be placed to that free PCI-e x1 slot next to a wireless module. So you could possibly have 3 HDD's in you FX. 1 SSD in PCI-e and 2x in 2.5" bays, (Maybe 2x500GB :p). That would be killer. And for covering everything with IC you need IC24, IC7 will not be enough! I covered CPU, NB, GPU and GPU memory modules. And then i had like quarter left in tube (maybe i overused it, but to be safe, i would buy bigger tube.) Just bought the new IC24 tube from ebay. Need to change it again, last time was exactly 1 year ago.

Obvious downside being that PCIE x1 slot SSD usually have about half of the read/write speeds of a SATA2 SSD.

Why don't you just save your money and wait another year till the i7's are more mainstream with the DX11 cards then sell your FX and use the money for a newer laptop.

Intel turbo memory (ie. the SSD that fits into the mini PCI-E slot) is kinda pointless if you are already getting a primary SSD to act as your boot drive.

I don't really want to get a new laptop so soon if these upgrades will allow this laptop to last for a couple of years.

I have already decided against the Intel Turbo Memory. For exactly this reason.

For the HDD get a Hitachi 7K500 not the seagate 500GB. SSD for the moment is Intel if you want the best. Nice thing is Trim is coming of age with SSD's..........

didnt Intel revoke their lastest TRIM-enabled firmware due to bugs or something; i recall it had something to do with decreased performance and/or write speeds?

Why the Hitachi? What makes it better? They are both 500gb 7,200 rpm hard drives.

I have Seagate Momentum 7200.4 with the G-force protection and they are 500GB 7200rpm disks. DONT buy those! They drive you crazy, they are constantly clicking and beeping :S And they go to sleep mode in every 20 sec and they wake up again, what makes your picture freez for 1 sec, in any application! There isnt a firmware fix out for PC laptops, only Apple updated their bios to make those disks to work normally. So avoid those Seagete disks! And i used programm called Quiet HDD to turn of certain features, sot the disks dont cycle down, they are constantly wake, that solved those problems mentioned earlier. But i dont know how that program affects the lifetime longevity for the HDD?
