So I thought I would let you guys know I FINALLY got the faceplate off the DVD drive that came with the 7811fx. The faceplate was really on there, I thought I was seriously going to break the little plastic clips on there. The dv7t faceplate came off relatively easily, so I was pretty happy about that. Now I just need to buy a Bluray movie, lol. Any recommendations for good 1080p movies? Do I need any drivers to watch movies? Thanks guys

oh btw, the dvd drive that came with the 7811fx would have a hard time closing but now the bluray drive has no trouble at all![]()

The Spiderman movies are really great looking if you are looking some good discs.

Great job on the upgrade! What drive are you using?
-
Cool! Congrats on the upgrade! You mind throwing up a link to the one you purchased? That'll help others when searching the forum who wanna do the swap.
-
Thanks guys
Now I never bought this drive I just switched out my dvd drive with my fathers bluray drive on his hp dv7t. The drive that is in there is an, Optiarc BD ROM BC-5500s. I had to also switch the little metal latch's or I couldn't screw the drives back in place. Face plates switched out well no problems at all, except it was an absolute pain to get my 7811 faceplate off! Also, when i booted up vista automatically installed some drivers. It seems to be working great with normal dvd's, read rates are pretty fast
. About those bluray movies, it's between "Live Free or Die Hard" or "Transformers"
-

Watch Live Free or Die Hard. If you can count Bruce Willis' wrinkles, you've definitely got hi-def.
-
haha, that is a good movie tho.i would say transformers because it looks amazing already.
-
Pirates of the caribbean are some of the higher rated blu rays, i have them for my ps3 and as mentioned spiderman looks fantastic as well as Batman begins .
-
Congrats!!!
-
Transformers, some of the best sound in any movie to date although it isn't released until Sept 2 in my area.
Grats on the upgrade! -
Iron Man, Batman Begins, Planet Earth (must watch), Blade Runner, The Matrix Trilogy, The Godfather.

I got Live Free or Die Hard
Now what software or drivers do I need to play the movie?
-
-
-
good thing I have a PS3 right beside my lappy, no need for bluray, although the playing of *legal* bluray and MKV files looks spectacular.
-
-
Looks good, just wish there were more options then the 1 drive that the egg sells for 330 =(
-
You can use the latest PowerDVD software to play Blueray or HD-DVD. That should be the only thing left. Then you will be in High-Def heaven. You can even plug your laptop via HDMI into LCD/Plassma TV or projector and watch it on a big screen. Welcome to High-Def world. Once your there, you'll never go back.
-
Yeah I got PowerDVD 8 and I watched Live free or die hard and it looked great
-
making me jealous, next paycheck'll be a Bluray SATA drive!
-

Does anyone make a slot load Blu-ray drive yet?
-
nope, only sony's got a SATA Bluray right now.
Panasonic makes a slot load, but its IDE. -
I wonder if a slot load cover would fit on a tray load and it work right? My 172 has a slot load.
-
It should, only problem (if you care for this sort of thing) is that you won't be able to use the color scheme matching drive cover.
-
When you get a new drive you use your panel on the new drive so if it will work it will be the same.
-
in theory it should be fine.
-
Ok, that link to the Sata Blueray drive says that it is a disconinued item. Does anyone know where else to get a Sata Blueray drive for the 7811?
-
-
Thanks! I can't tell, is that a Blueray burner, or just a reader?
-
BlueRay reader only... From Sony's website:
— Play Hollywood Blu-ray Disc? movies on a properly configured PC
— BD-ROM, BD-R, and BD-RE read capabilities
— DVD and CD writing & reading capabilities -
hmm thanks i think ill buy one for my 7811 as well, would save me the time to have to buy a ps3 (dying system)
