I am just about to order a P-171XL FX Edition. I am going to call the guy from Gateway tomorrow that emailed me about my qoute.
I have been to the Gateway site looking at pictures of it aobut 20 times a day the last three days since I decided not to get a HP.
I do not see the fingerprint reader on the FX editions. I see a third button between the right and left click of the mouse pad on the P-series, non-FX edition. Is that it? The mouse pad on the FX edition models looks the same as the retail model P-6831FX, which does not have a fingerprint reader.
Is it the button, just to the right of the power button?
I've never seen a fingerprint reader before. I had just started shopping for a new laptop this week online. I lived a lone way from a Best Buy.
Someone please help me, I'm freaking out. Well, not freadking out, but concerned that I will get it and it won't have it.

Yes, that was the fingerprint reader right where you thought. Don't freak
If it works well, it's faster than a typing a password.. -
Thanks, hydra. You did mean the one to the right of the power button?

The fingerprint reader is right between the left mouse click and the right mouse click by the touchpad. Theres a photo of it some where on the Gateway website...I'll try to find it.

I was confused about this too at first but realized that Gateway's website staff is doing a really shoddy job - they actually have P-6831 pictures for all of the 171-FX models...but the 171S and 171X pages actually have the correction pictures and they show the fingerprint reader between the touchpad buttons.
Fingerprint reader/FX Edition. Where is it??
