right now im on a 1520 that is based around the RIOCH chipset - its not the best for running firewire audio or recording -

would any P-7801u owners care to say what firewire chipset is in their laptop -

i believe you right click on my computer>manage>device manager> and the firewire chipset will be listed under the heading IEEE 1394 controller.

thanks - hopefully its running the texas instruments chipset !!

the 7805 uses an O2Micro Ven_1217&DEV_00F7, I'd imagine they're the same for both units.

While I'm not certain what is in the 7805, the 6860 uses the Agere chips. I feel your pain, I just spent a week trying to get an Agere card to stream live high-resolution video. Finally got smart and bought a TI card and everything is OK now. Worst-case, buy a NitroAV expresscard. They always use TI. They just work!

I just bought a Gateway P7805U laptop. I am trying to confirm the truth about what chip set it's FIRE WIRE section has. In my device manager, it only says, "OHCI COMPLIANT IEEE1394". I have called Gateway tech support 2 times & each time, they gave me an unsure answer & assigned me a case number for investigation. Anyone out there know how I can confirm for sure what chip set MY unit has? I REALLY NEED IT TO BE A TEXAS INSTRUMENTS SET.

I highly doubt it's not the same O2 Micro as my (and every other 7805u I've seen) unit uses. You can verify by opening the firewire controller in device manager and going to the details tab and check the hardware IDs. If you have the same VEN & DEV info as me you have the O2, if not you can search the net and ussually find out what chipset it is from those #s.

bro, hate to disappoint you but, uh I just checked my FX 7805 and it is a confirmed 1217&DEV - not TI chipset, dammit!

I wonder if a fw card with a TI chipset will do????
I just got myself a Presonus firebox, and while it's working sort of on my Lenovo Ideapad Y530 (ricoh) no sync issues.....I can faintly hear cracks and pops....
