So, I've officially decided that I'm computarded after flashing the BIOS in the sticked BIOS thread. The flash ran and now the computer is unresponsive when i hit the power button. I'm afraid I may have fried my motherboard or BIOS chip. Is there anyway for me to revert to the default BIOS without a floppy drive?

Any info is good info! thx

    its the 6860fx

    edit:

can i actually take the battery out of the motherboard and unhook it from the powersupply and hold down the power button to reset it?

First question is which model IE P7805-u FX etc. With the P7805 the CMOS battery is located under the wireless card as an example..........

The sticky thread is for the 78xx series not the 68xx series.

I'm not familiar with a bad bios update fix, usually when you flash a bad bios update it will kill your motherboard. Their are two ways of fixing this, the first way is to buy a new bios chip and remove the old one. The other option would be to replace the motherboard. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this to you yet.

I suggest you Google the problem you might find a solution/workaround posted on some forum/site.

    Google: "Flashed wrong bios"
    "Gateway flashed wrong bios"
    "wrong bios can't boot"
etc... You'll find plenty people on the internet with similar problems...

There may be a force flash procedure so look around a little more. I'm not sure.

With P-78xx you can apply emergency flash recovery by using a USB containing emergency flash. This flash reading is started by holding Fn+ESC and then pressing power button to start the computer (before this you will need to remove at least battery and CMOS-battery and possibly hard drives).

This is not foolproof however, there is a good chance that bad bios might have fried the flash memory for good, but it is worth of a try. This worked nicely for my P-7811, when I manged to mess up the bios on my computer while trying to adjust GPU voltages.

Check this post for further details.
