It's not about the cost. I am fully aware that I can always utilize a USB keyboard as a solution. I just don't want to. I use my lappy on my lap in my recliner and there is no room on my ultra high tech lap adapter (cutting board) for an extra keyboard.

....Although, being able to type in a sandstorm....

That's pretty cool. Cleans with soap and water too for anyone who tends to spill things I suppose, or eats and has nasty oily, greasy fingers while they type on keyboard. :D

You don't have to have room for an extra keyboard, you can simply put the keyboard ON your laptop OVER the internal keyboard. Though with the rubber one it would push through and press the buttons on the interal keyboard too. I'm a complete "Keep everything in new condition" freak so recently I've started putting the foam'ish cloth thing that came with the laptop (That was covering the keyboard and touchpad). I put that on the keyboard (Like it was when it was packaged) and put an external keyboard ON my laptop (It wont scratch it now, thats what the use of the protector thing is for). And I'm using my external mouse with a hard mouse pad. Therefore I don't have to touch/wear out the keyboard or touchpad. Though if you're just looking to get the function key back where your used to it, you can just cut out the touchpad shape in this protection thing and your good to go.
(Also if you use the Media keys at the top of the FX's, this little work-around may get in the way, but I don't use them)

i've thought about buying one of these before, but not because of the function key, just for fun or being able to just roll out a keyboard.
