Frequent blue screens with engineering sample?

So recently I got a t9800 ES and I find that it blue screens a lot. It does it 50/50 when I boot up the comp. Funny thing is, when I stress test it for like 2 hours with slight underclocking, there's no problems. It's mainly when the computer boots.

Is this a problem or is it something rather common with engineering samples? I do also notice this cpu doesn't like undervolting at all, I lower it a few notches and it starts bsoding on me. So now my highest multiplier is at 1.8v instead of the default 2.1v.

Anyways, just sharing my experiences and wondering if this is all part of the engineering sample experience.

Something else is probably causing the BSOD, not the CPU.

    Any error codes?

    details details....

when does it happen, before or after windows loading progress bar? how long ago did it start? did you make any significant changes before it started (did it start right after you put in the ES)? also keep a notepad next to your laptop and record the error code (they probably won't always be the same). run those codes through google. check Windows event viewer, that might show something too.

Well it basically started doing the bsod's after i installed the cpu. Before that, absolutely no problem. I'm going to return this to the seller anyways. The seller did say it was an earlier revision. I'll go pick up a QS. And wow, I didn't expect to see this thread revived since it fell off the first page with no responses.

But for those that MIGHT be applicable to my situation: after installing the cpu, I started to get random bsods after the vista loading bar but before actually getting into windows. This would happen half the time usually. But I'll eventually get into windows. Also the one I got was incredibly non-undervoltable. Few notches down (few as in like what....2-3 notches from highest voltage?) and it'll start bsoding. Maybe that's just how it is, but for all the other cpu's I've undervolted, I could pretty much take it to the absolute lowest voltages with no problem.

Picking up my QS P9600 today at post office will see how it boots up :)

The earlier ES chips were most likely borderline working with heat and or voltages. Even the QS samples may be close to that. I have mine on order, QS P9600, and is on its way but I do not expect much if any undervolting capability.

Edit: I have to ask what type of heat paste was used?

    hi
What do you think of the QS P 9600 as a upgrade?
    thanks.

    @cattman,

From everything I read, you will have absolutely no problem with the P9600 QS, providing it's what it is.

Very interesting about the T9800 ES problem, zergslayer69, who is your seller? was it extremeprocessor?

I had something similar to this problem when I installed my x9000 into my 6860fx. I would get many bluescreens, especially in cpu extensive apps. You seem to be having a worse case than what I did, but when I reinstalled windows it fixed all of my bluescreen errors.

Not guaranteeing this will work, but it might fix any software incompatibility you have in your computer.

I had pretty much same problem with a 7811FX fresh out of the box, would crash on start up, crash during games, I went to format - reinstalled 64bit Vista, installed slightly OLDER nvidia drivers, and de-volted .500 and since then not a single problem.

First time i counted, I had around 80 BSOD's before I formatted. Thats alot of blue!!
