Hey guys, im gonna make the move to vista 64bit on my P-6831FX but I noticed on the gateway website that it doesnt list all the drivers for 64bit. Couple questions on the install:

What is the preferred install method for doing this on the P-6831FX?

Does anyone know if the generic drivers that vista loads are stable?

Where can I get the drivers for all the components because Gateway doesnt show the 64bit drivers for the P-6831FX on their website?

I was searching around here and seem to have ran into the dead links with no definitive answer to this, so If someone has the means or methods on a successful install of Vista 64 on P-6831FX, please share.

Or... if one of you P-6860FX owners want to give me acess to your S/N so that I can download the drivers from your model off the Gateway website, I would greatly appreciate it.

or the other work around would be to send me a copy of all the 64bit drivers from the 6860 model on cd/dvd, of course I would pay you for it plus the shipping and cd/dvd cost.

    Thanks guys

yeah i purchased a dvd copy of vista 64. Im in no immediate rush to upgrade to 64 but have been looking on ebay for a good deal for quite some time... found a good "best offer" auction and now i can max out this thing to 4gb ram and actually utilize it.

as far as i know you should be able to use your home premium key for either x86 or x64 versions.

yeah it did come with a license key and maybe threads said that you should be able to use ur home premium 32bit key for 64bit

besides, why buy a vista 64 cd w/o the key? I made sure that mine came with the key

As I understand it, you can order the 64 bit DVD off Windows Marketplace for the cost of shipping and your 32 bit key can be used to activate it as well.

indeed you can... if you have a "retail" copy of vista.

however, all GW 6831's come with only OEM copies of vista 32bit and MS doesnt support OEM versions, only retail copies

Isn't there a place an ISO for 64 bit can be downloaded as long as we provide a legitimate serial key off our computers?

there are means of that and you are taking a risk of downloading ISO's, who knows what you are really downloading and what could be piggybacked off those files

I dont think those means should be discussed here
