I was watching a tv show last night on my laptop (connected to TV via VGA cord), there was a quick power outage and the laptop switched to battery power. Then when the power came back on the laptop switched back to its plugged in power source. I wasn't thinking much last night, and now realize I should have clearly a) had a power bar in, and b) unplugged my laptop right away.

Anyway, laptop will NOT turn on now. I've tried plugging in to multiple outlets, and tried battery source only. The light on the power source bar is green and works, and when plugged in to the laptop when the battery is in the blue light on the laptop keyboard shows that it's charging. I'm guessing the power source is fried, and am wondering if it's worth fixing thing $500 laptop? (see specs below)

    Any suggestions?

You could ask Gateway. They do do repairs.

I'd at least see what was what with the laptop if you aren't sure (eg. taking it to a geek), and get an estimate on what it would cost to fix it, if it's even fixable. Considering the information on this very forum about how to take apart and put together a laptop, you might be able to replace whatever's gone wrong yourself, if you have more time than money.

still under warranty? Sounds really weird because that box thing in the middle of the power cord is supposed to act like a surge protector - it's supposed to get fried instead of your computer.

Ther is a chance it could be that the power surge just fried your Bios. You could try resetting the bios with the jumpers or just unplugging everything including the cmos battery, wait about 15 minutes then plug everything back in and try turning it on again. Don't get your hopes up, though.

that laptop was a refurbished $400 purchase 1.5 yrs ago. it's time to move on. i'm not going to spend a lot of money on fixing this, when i'd rather get a new laptop. thank you to everyone for their responses and answers, it's greatly appreciated.
