I am having 2 issues with this brand new computer. It has frozen up 2-3 times on me and I just cannot get it to read from SD cards or flash drives. It says the drive has to be formatted every time I insert a card or a flash drive. I tried downloading the drivers but no dice. Any ideas? Thanks.

re-install vista from the CD... the copy installed on your machine has been molested by bestbuy apparently and gateway while your CD has a clean copy of vista. So install it and remember you need drivers for your wifi and your video so get those from gateway. I think the rest works without need for extra drivers.

Thanks but will that resolve my issue? I am hesitant only because I got my Vb programs to work with Vista after great difficulty and I'd hate to do it again. Also what would Bestbuy do that will make the computer not read flash memory? It has no problems reading other external hard drives when connected to USB. When I connect any flash drive to either USB or card reader then the problems arise.

^^ verify the Sd card and flash drive specifications, some high density card will have a hard time with built-in card readers on laptops

    cheers ...

how about going and saving your flash drive content on another computer, sticking it in your 6862 formatting it, then recopy and try if it readable ?

if that fails try to go to Control Panel – Admin tools – Computer Management – Disc Management.

There you can see your drive so you right click and re-partition and low level format.
After that you should be able to do a regular format.

I had no problem using the internal reader reading 8GB and 4GB SDHC Class 6 & Class 4 & Class 2 SD Cards. And 4GB non SDHC SD Cards all worked fine and fairly quickly in the built in reader.
