After asking others about the noise level of the MX7515 hitachi 5400RPM HD, I want to go back and exchange it. I got the Future Shop PSP plan, can I just tell them that my HD makes too much noise and get a new one? I checked with the Hitachi HD tool and it shows no error on my HD, is there a way to prove the problem and get an exchange?

Maybe is just not properly installed and is vibrating too much....try extracting it (is just one screw) and putting it back in....and if that doesn't solve it they (FS) should change it, even more chances if you got the service plan.

Nope....there is no way they would note that...it very easy to take it out and back in and there is no sticker or something that would leave a mark what you did.

I tried extracting the HD and put it back it, after around 15 minutes, it started again, if I want to exchange it, what should I tell them beside the loud noise?

I changed the HD in my 7510GX to a Fujitsu 80GB 5400 rpm and it's quieter than the toshiba 60GB 5400 rpm 2.5" external I made. Could it be the Hitachi brand?

I would ask the Future Shop to compare your laptop with an identicle one and see if the noise is comparable. If the noise is comparable, I would prabably have to decide to live with it knowing that you have a faster hd than you bargained for. Otherwise you should be able to get your miney back. I would expalain that you just cannot live with all this noise as it is intolerable for the setting that you are using it. The bearings are probably going to fail prematurely.
