I got a P7811FX and it is out of warranty. The GPU fan stopped working a couple of days ago, so no gaming for me until I can get it replaced.

And that is the big question. Where can I get a new fan? I'm getting the run-around on Gateway's site. It seems they want me to use their "Answers By Gateway" which is $60.00 for 30 minutes. Which is kinda nuts seeing how all I want is just to order a cooling fan.

Anyone here know how to get replacement parts from them without going though ABG?

There is also the possibility that the fan is not the problem. My guess is that it operates on a 3-5v. input, so maybe if you strung a few batteries together you could test the fan that way. Could also just be that the fan is stuck with gunk, you should be able to rotate the fan effortlessly with your finger.

If I'm not mistaken, getting to the FX's GPU requires that you just about take apart your entire computer. There are a few people in this forum who have, or who are doing that, you could search for their posts and ask for instructions. Not sure if the procedure is stickied anywhere.

    Update: found instructions here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=382408

Have you tried cleaning out your system before you try replacing the fan?

Our fans have a problem with dust "wrapping" itself up in the fan spindle and stopping the fan from being able to turn.

Get some canned air and some q-tips and do a really deep cleaning.

That will probably free up your fan

OMG! $70 for a fan! About ten years ago I bought fans for a desktop that were like $5-10 each. Is this just because they go into a notebook?

Thanks Sparkyman, got the part number from the two websites you gave and found a fan on Ebay for $20. Just got it today and will be putting it in later tonight. :D
