I have Riva turner and another utility installed on my side bar..

here's the temperature it shows :

I'm running 181.22 "DOX Optimized Drivers" dated, 14/01/2009.

Anything I should update / do to decrease these temperatures..
before I was able to play GTA IV fine without it over heating, now it the temperatures climb about 85+ degrees, and so it shuts down automatically.

Also note, its kind of hot now.. the ambient temperature ranges from 25-30 degrees.

Oh and its a 6860FX so 8800m GTS.

Is the left fan still coming on full blast when you're gaming?

Or it could be dust clogging up some vents. That seems to be a common culprit. If you search a bit, you can find numerous threads about dust and how to clean it out.

I use CPUID (HWMonitor) and I want to know what temps i am running "in game"..I can open it up immediately after I stop playing but by then the temps have dropped a little in the last 7 seconds. There is a column labeled MAX. Is that what max temp it reached? Or can I leave HWMonitor on during gamplay and try to pause the game and pop up the HWMonitor? Guess im confused on how to use it...or if it even CAN monitor "during gamplay"

Yes just leave it running in the background, and when you exit back to Windows the max column shows how high it reached.

    Core 0 Idle: 55 Min: 54 Max: 59
    Core 1 Idle: 55 Min: 54 Max: 59

    HD: Idle: 52 Min: 52 Max: 52

the CPU also seems to be on the high side right? What should I do.. take it out apply some paste?

My GPU also seems to be on the high side, idling at 61 and maxing at 104. Just now I "played" (by that I mean I left the game running idle for 5 - 10 minutes) GTA IV and it went up to 104 degrees and yea the left fan does come on full blast.. visibly there isn't really a collection of dust, but I will try and spray it out anyways.

I'm using Dox Drivers 182.46 Mobile Optimized, and I get great temperatures and it seems like it's finally pushing the limits of the graphics card. Different computers need different drivers. I tried out at least 10-20 different drivers and configurations before I got one that I liked. I can overclock well, maintain good temps, and keep solid framerates on the games I play.

You have a different laptop, but the sames rules apply. Experiment. Try different drivers. Dox aren't always the best, because they're based off desktop drivers. Also, when trying new drivers make sure you clean out the old ones properly. If you don't, it can cause more problems then changing drivers solves.
