Im about to uninstall this piece of of a game :-/

Whenever I try to play it, it either lags like hell OR the camera view starts swaying / swinging like crazy. Im still dizzy from playing it.

On a side note: I upgraded the CPU to a T8300.

Is there anything I can do, that will enable me to play the game half-way decent, or should I just forgot all about it?

    Have you installed the patches?

Unfortunatly even with all of the patches installed you're going to have trouble playing this game. GTA was a pretty poor port IMO, and is a very HEAVY user of CPU resources as well as GPU resources.

THe game can bring my x9000 to its knees for the most part (though i have a little better sucess playing it decently smooth at lower settings)

This game really needs a quad core and a SLI/Crossfire set up wouldnt hurt, though the 8800gts can play it decently well

Here is the thread to the links with the patches to the game. Its supposed to help a little.

I think the largest problem is distances and settings like that. Resolution in the game never affected my preformance. Just everything else

Yea unfortunately even the fastest Core2's cannot hack this game, Quad cores are recommended and still dont cut it sometimes, I doubt my i7 would even.

Its a terribly coded game, so if you cannot run it well its not just you.

I too upgraded to a T8300 in my 6860 and i can run it pretty well. I've installed up to patch 1.0.3 and it plays pretty good. It doesn't help too much, but i always turn off as much as i can, like wifi, antivirus, rocketdock, etc.

GTA 4 runs great on my p7805u and It has a P8400 dual core. Check out this vid of it running on my machine http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIucbQ5Pw4k&feature=channel_page
you definitely need patch 1.0.3 and overclocking the GPU helps. Also you need to tweak the visualsetting.sys
I'll make a video on how to do that soon and post it on Youtube

It runs fine with a little bit of tweaking... like turning down the amount of reflections or filters or something like that brought up a little more fps..... sorry to say like the others... but even my T9300 has trouble running it
