    Hi All.
I'm helping a friend with his Gateway T-1616. It's giving the dreaded "bootmgr is missing" message. I've fixed this issue on others pcs and laptops, but this thing has me stumped!

I can't even boot from the CD drive to try and run some recovery tools.
The BIOS ver is 90.02. Best I can tell is the laptop is running Vista. The drive has two partitions, system and recovery. I haven't spent much time working on Gateways so I'm not even sure what the normal config is for the partitions.

I hooked the hard drive up to one of my machines to back up the data. The folder structure looks out of sorts, but other than that it showed up just fine on my PC.

I ran Esset, AVG, MalwareBytes, and Defender and the drive came up clean.

My gut tells me the drive is going bad. But that doesn't explain the cd drive not allowing me to boot from it. Although the owner of the laptop told me he was able to boot from the cd just yesterday.

Any thoughts or input would me great appreciated!

    thanks,
    BJ
