Gaming on battery and bad performance

I have a 6860 that does great when playing while plugged in at "High Performance" setting. When I unplug it, I have it set to stay on High performance, and it does, but there is a huge dip in the FPS when I'm playing even games like WOW.

Is there some setting I have overlooked that I need to change further in the high performance settings?

I just want it to run on battery the same as it does while plugged in. I know I will have crappy battery life, but that is fine.

The only setting I saw in the advanced section of the power management is on battery the minimum cpu use is 10% and max is 100% and while plugged in its 100% and 100%. So maybe in wow its thinking it shouldn't max it out or go anywhere near 100% even though the game is laggy. Strange.

there is an nvidia function called powermizer, it down clocks the gpu when 3d intensive calculations are not needed, some drivers when on batteries kick in powermizer anyway disregard of your power settings / the need gpu high clocks.

so your cpu has nothing to do with it, what nvidia drivers do you use ?

if you try and run the machine full blast ie no powermizer and max processor the machine will most likely just shut off on you like it does for me and many others
theres a thread around somewhere detailing peoples experiences just search machine shuts off on battery i believe .

 

laptops like this are not made to perform good in games using battery
all the gaming laptops have this problem and we are lucky that the battery can long for more than 2.5 hours.

Hmmm, well, I don't really care if it was only 15 minutes or half an hour. The problem I have is that I can't figure out how to make it run as well on battery as when its plugged in. Its just strange to me. Sometimes I'll just use it on battery for 15 minutes in wow to talk to people or move a character before I log out but after I've had to move spots on the couch or something. So its not about the time that it can run, but the fact that the way it runs on battery sucks.

Maybe batteries just can't put out enough power to satisfy the draw of the power?

I also set the processor to run at minimum 100% and maximum 100% on battery in high performance. Then I made sure it was on high performance, unplugged, made sure it was still on high performance and alt tabbed back into World of Warcraft. The FPS went from 60 plugged in to 16 on battery.

There has to be a setting that just sets everything to full on battery, just like on AC power.... I hope...

Now I'm just fiddling out of curiosity.

after making that if it doesn't work try and make custom power mode in vista
and see if both can do the trick cause i don;t have these problem.

i only have 10% decries fame rate in battery.

 

I run WoW on batteries only for at least an hour every day. I always get 55-60fps and the battery is good for that hour (just barely). I have made no changes to powermizer (had to look up that thread just to see how it was done since I couln't find it in the nVidia utility).

 

Yes but your running wow on a machine that has a 8800M GTS...so even on battery wow will roll.

You would think so (I know I do), but the OP indicated a drop in frames even on WoW... Hence my post. Perhaps he is experiencing other issues leading to his predicament?
