If not working on Either AC or charging from AC then there is something wrong with the plug or circuitry. Not sure if the model you speak of has a seperate onboard power module. I had one person I know of with an HP that only worked if you played with the plug an it connected. I had to pull the board out and solder in a new power plug unit.

If it were not getting power where I could see there was an issue with the power plug I would not have pulled it appart. All that work for no result would not have been an option...............

No it refuses to charge using either method,is the soldering a major task if needed you think? They were going to send it to gateway,at what cost is anybodys guess....

    Thanks for your help :D

if it refuses to charge or operate under AC then the power connector or something in the power circuitry is bad. Trust in that resoldering or soldering in a new power plug unit is a major task, one I will not repeat.

Gateway will not resolder it, they will replace up to the entire board.
