Well, I really just need to vent. Then I'll probably send Gateway a letter sometime this week.
I bought a Gateway CX210X on 26 Jan 2007. Since then, I've had such a bad experiance. I bought a refurbished notebook. And it came with a screen that was not sealed properly. I sent it in, the problem was fixed. Then, the magnetic latch started to wear improperly. I sent it in again. This time, it wasn't sealed properly again. I again sent it in due to a bad bulb in the LCD screen. (see below). Dust accumlates under the screen and it's terrible. Then I sent it in again, with a letter. Clearly stating that I had formatted the drive before I sent it in. They sent it back stating:
"Consumer complains about flickering bulb - Problem - No OS loaded"
WOW. I did get 100$ compensation, but still. That clearly is not enough.
Their driver download page blows. I don't know what server provider they use, but it's so bad all I get is errors. It's slow and doesn't give me the right drivers sometimes.
Their tech support is horrendus. I'm an "advanced" user and I can't stand how stupid these people are. I'm familiar with all tech support, but theirs is worse. I thought because its all American based it would be better than talking to some indian, nope. Not true.
yeah, letter time. and back to chem class...

Ashame you had such bad experience. It's always a risk to get anything refurbished. You have to give them credit for "working" with you with your problems even though the results have not been what you expected, they have been trying the numerous times you sent it back in.
I have a gateway T-16xx and the driver download page has not been a problem. The downloads have been accurate and fast. Perhaps it's just with your specific model, you might want to contact their webmaster.
Good luck. -
i think you shouldnt have bought a refurb in the first place. its such a risk and i guess you shouldve expected that. and yeah at least they are working with you lol. i thought they dont support refubs. anyway ive got a t-1616 the drivers are alright. try contacting the webmaster like eugenile said OR hunt them each on the net yourself since your an advanced user im sure searching will pop a few things up.
good luck man! -
I agree with lokster, when i try Xp on my T-1616 and i had to get drivers from their page it was easy to navigate and got drivers in no time, but a refur. laptop is a big risk.
BTW
CompUsa is going out of business on February 2008, they are going to start selling everything starting with a 5% off, and lower from then on as they get closer to the closing date. Take advantage of the good price to get some kool stuff at good price.
