I was at Best Buy today and they where selling those Gateway budget gaming laptops for only $749. It had a 8800M GTS and I believe it had 4GB of ram. The CPU was a bit weak (1.86Ghz...or something) and a little outdated (not Centrino 2)...but man $749 for a brand new laptop with a 8800M GTS, I was trying to figure out what was the catch and other then the midrange CPU (possibly lowend now days) I couldn't find any. For a gaming laptop you simply can not find a better deal for under $1000 then this. It's not on their website for some reason. I don't know how Gateway does it.

I would love to have more info on this if it's true..
It sounds like the p-6860 FX model and I wouldn't be surprised since tigerdirect was selling it for 700$ this morning but it got sold out pretty fast!! Anyone else has any info on this?

And I was gonna take a picture with my cell phone too...but I figured at the time it was probably on the Best Buy site. It was a 17" model with a 8800M GTS because it said so in the spec list on the card with the price.

I thought the 6860FX was Best Buy exclusive???....I've never seen the 6860 model at TigerDirect....only the P-173X series.

    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?MfrId=3233&Nav=|c:2511|&Sort=0&Recs=10

I call BS on the 749 price for the 6860. I was just at my local BB and they still had it for 1349, the same as the website.

The Tiger one was a refurb, I think. Tiger has been an outlet for a LONG time for Gateway refurbs.

Oh - my bad - "recertified"

The price was correct, $749 for 6860, look in "Deals" thread.
Unfortunately someone placed an order for 200 of them so deal was over pretty fast -(

But to understand the "true" cost cost of this laptop you probably have to factor in warranty, because they only come with 3 months limited warranty, it would be stupid to not try to get warranty on refurbished laptop, and considering 8800m GTS is now also revealed to have a flaw. I don't know if it was possible to get squaretrade warranty on this 1 and how reliable it is either.

So the cost is increased if you factor in warranty by up to $200 - 300 and also the proccessor is too slow for games and will be bottlenecking 8800m GTS' performance, and don't forget that 1440x900 screen is on a lowbie side, after working @1920x1200 I not sure I would want to downgrade.

My local bestbuy had the 6860 tonight for that same exact price. I went out there to check and just make sure it wasn't the $749 that was posted, because if it was, I would have bought one, but I figured it wouldn't be the $749 price.

To the OP, if you can, get a picture of the price tag at your bestbuy showing the model number with the price of the $749.

The deal you speak of was the Compusa/tiger direct deal and it was for a refurbished 6860 for $699, not 749 and the OP specifically stated the laptop he saw for $749 with a 8800 GTS in it was at bestbuy. Like I said, I will believe it when I see a picture of the tag that has the price and model number on it.
