I have a gateway 400SD4 and I have 512 MB memory in it which is the factory maximum but I have read that the reason more memory could not be added is that there is a software limitation that will not allow more than that to be recognized

What I wanted to know is has anybody been able to remove this limitation and add more than the factory maximum and was it recognized by the system previously mentioned or any other gateway notebook.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If 512MB is the maximum system memory (usually determined by the BIOS), then no, you cannot upgrade. Besides, you'd be hard presssed to find PC1600 SO-DIMMs anywhere these days, anyways.

    Also, please don't cross post.
