    Gateway 450 SX4 Battery issue

    Hello,
    Had problem with main battery, talked to Gateway Tech. Bottom line battery will no longer take/hold a charge.
    I REMOVED the battery as per tech support suggestion. Does anyone see a problem with running it without the battery?? It booted up and is working just fine without it. I did cover the battery bay with a stiff piece of cardboard to keep "grubbies" out.
    Suggestions? Comments? Best place to buy NEW battery if I need one?
