Hello. After all the help that I got...I am now looking at Pentium M computers. Now that I think about it, I will be kinda moving around a lot so I do need a laptop that isn't THAT heavy and also runs cool. Anyways, I looked at the Gateway 4520GZ on the Best Buy website and I was just wondering if anyone has any review on these computers? How about the Gateway 4525GZ? Is that any good? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

I just went to gateway website, and I couldn't find 4520gz, but I think it's a 450 series. if you have the spec, it would help. Also, what will you be using it for?
I think this is what you are refering to http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1087342445452&skuId=6759313&productCategoryId=cat01174&type=product

I wouldn't buy a Gateway and haven't seen one recommended here in a year. Does that tell you anything?

I have no idea about that, but I have known in the past around 2+ ago, that their desktop product and support were generally better than Dell/HP/Compaq, but they were pricier as well.

    I would say a 1.5 pentium m is about equivilent to a 2.40 pentium 4. Thats if its a banias (1mb L2 cache), and if its a dothan (2mb L2 cache) then its about a 2.64.

Hmm...I think the reason that they're aren't any like feedbacks on this thing is because like gateways closed all their stores and now selling it to third party retail stores, like BestBuy, and so people didn't really have a chance to buy it. But yeah, normally, Gateways aren't that good anyways. But I dunno. Oh yeah, the 1.5 GHz Pentium M Processor, in terms of Pentium 4 Processor....how fast is that? Also, is the AMD Athlons-M....I don't get the difference. Is PM better then? Please let me know. Thanks

Oh, ok. Damn, you have helped so much. Do you have AIM? Maybe we can talk. I have a lot more questions to ask but don't want to keep putting new threads. Haha. But yeah, I really need help on picking a computer. As we established, I want a Pentium M notebook that has at least 60 GB and at least 512 MB of ram. The screen has to be at least 15.4 inches and not bad to look at. My price range is about $500-$1500 and not more than that. PLEASE help me out. Im really desperate. Thanks!!!

Im not sure I understand what is wrong with Gateway. I own a 305CS system and love it. It was cheap, works well, lightweight, support is fast and overall it seems like a good product. Unlike my last Dell that ate 2 mainboards in 6 months and I had to learn Arabic to talk with support.

Is it supposed to blow up soon lol

I just bought the M320x Plus, which is more or less the equivalent of the m4520GZ... (The only difference is that you order the 320 from gateway, but you can only get the 4520 via retail.) Quality wise, it seems real good so far! And it's got a little style, which is something that I was looking for and couldnt find from Dell. Its a quick machine, no real problems thus far... The speakers are surprisingly good, and the battery still lasts a good 2hours with a movie playing in the dvd drive (4 hours if you are just doing normal stuff.) everything is laid out where you want it more or less, although I keep rubbing my hand on the touchpad and its getting a little annoying, but that just may be me not being used to a laptop yet. It only comes with a 1024x768 xga TFT, but that is fairly typical. Also, there's no SVIDEO out, so if thats something important to you, then you should be aware of it. But the SD Drive on the side more than makes up for it. Anyway, at 1400 clams (after a hundred dollar rebate), its a cheap pretty hooked up system.. And I'm really pleased that after all the research I came out with something so good. Here's a little hint.. if you want to order a system from them, use the e-chat or call them up and tell them you don't want to pay the shipping and more often then not they'll waive the fee.. Bargain wise, it makes it feel like its much more worth it. Now I just need to find a laptop bag.

    NJOSE--

My second choice before I decided on the Gateway was the Compaq x1000, it sounds a lot like what you're looking for. Check it out.. hpshopping.com

    HI...

i would suggest 2 you only 2 go to gateway if you want a tablet pc, which actually is quite ideal because it has centrino, good proccessor, liteweight, and convertible into a regular notebook. Though, if you are looking 4 a power notebook 2 handle games and related stuff, go 4 the DELL INSPIRON 8600. centrino up to 2ghz 128 mb video ram 15.4 inch widescreen, 100 gb hard drive, 8x dvd burner and more

    sorry i didnt read everything...

since you only want 500 - 1500 spending...look at the dell inspiron 600m although that only has a 14.1 inch screen but great general use options, and also u can look at the sony a series notebooks they are as good as the 600m with a 17inch widescreen and optional wireless mose with a reciever thats built into the computer 2 make it look sleek. 2 ghz and 80 gb and 1 or 2 gb ram available

Hi. This notebook is on sale this week at Best Buy.

I'm not sure whether to get this one or the equivalent Averatec 6200H also on sale this week at Best Buy for less money.

I posted something in more detail about this in the Averatec forum.

    thanks.

The 4520gz notebook itself is truly nice. Very light and thin, easy to read, keyboard and pointer are ergonomic, does not generate excess heat, and the battery seems to last 5+ hours.

The bad side is that the support for the notebook is essentially non-existent and nobody except an expert should buy this product. The first bad sign is that gateway's site suggests that "For personalized support enter your serial number", but it will not accept the serial numbers from this product. When you go to the FAQ it will answer silly questions like how to change the battery but has no information on substantial subjects such as wireless configuration. (The Intel wireless software as installed out of the box complains that it is misconfigured.) There is almost no other information except for these useless FAQs. You can search but the search includes sources such as the Microsoft knowledge base and the search engine does not allow much filtering, so any search seems to end up with hundreds to thousands of results, of which one or two might be relevant. Gateway will gladly charge you for answers – the only free contact you have is with a sales rep. They provide bad free information and charge for answers – this is not a company I’d choose to deal with and I regret not checking this before purchasing.

Net: Avoid this product until Gateway decides to better support it. Check for yourself -- go to the gateway site, look up this product by its model number, and try to find information on something like wireless operations.

    Thanks for that info!!!
I believe you are the person who wrote a review stating this in zdnet.com or pcmag.com. Or one of those review sites.

It's very sad that they make these machines but you cant just buy what you would like because the support just sucks. Like Dell. I wont buy a Dell for this reason.
