Over the last couple of months, I've lost all audio capability on my Gateway 600YGR notebook. I have not added any new hardware, other than a 4-port USB hub. First, I lost the right channel and then last week, lost the left, as well. Device manager doesn't indicate any problems. I've downloaded both the original ESS Audio drivers and the latest, of course, trying them independently of each other. Even the S/PdIF light remains dark, yet all diagnostics indicate the hardware is fine. Only other "coincidence" is that it appears that of the two USB ports on the machine, the one on the right (closest to the back of the notebook) is now not working as well, again, even though the Device Manager indicates all is well.
Any ideas or input would be appreciated. I'd REALLY prefer not to have to purchase a new laptop now and Gateway wants $249 just to look at it, as it's out of its 3-year warranty.
Thanks and happy holidays to all!
